Great video, this will help many people starting off to know the basics when starting to collect and preserve these items. I own a few good examples now myself that if I get around to it I might make a video of them. I have a M18 helmet, fitted with a M31 liner and 1930s decal, which is my personal favourite. I have a fantastic condition coastal artillery M40, original liner and strap, though at some point a collector has painted small parts of the original decal, but the vast majority of it is visible and it displays extremely well. One area my knowledge is lacking though, and it would make a great topic for a possible future video if it's an area you may know more about, and that is camouflage on original helmets, which is a particular subject all on it's own. I have one that is marked Q66, a definite original liner in a reasonable condition but not great, part missing from one of the tongues and slightly torn, but it has the remains of camo paint. Any information on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

OOf. Original camouflage is a great subject, yet very deep and intricate. Perhaps someday I'll get around to that, but it's a great idea. Most "camouflage helmets" are fake, but the real ones are very cool.

@@MikeB128 This is the trouble, the helmet I own is certainly an original helmet, I'm confident of that, but could the camo have been done years later? A re-enactor maybe? The camo looks worn off for a good part and it does display well but I just don't know. On the plus side it is an original underneath, even if I cannot verify the paintwork. Keep making these videos, great subject, these are massively interesting!

Awesome collection! I know you have, don't know if still currently, re-enacted. But not sure if you wore replicas or originals. If you were to wear your original helmets how do you maintain them? Do you have measures to prevent rust on exposed areas? Or ways to protect the liners? Or are your helmets just display, and if so are there any measures you take to maintain display peices? I don't have any collection peices so was curious, thank you!

I wanna buy but at the same time I don’t want waste money

I have an M42 my grandad bought back from Falais in 1945. BUT it has 2 shields hand painted either side with a red circle and swastika and scratched on the front is the free French or 11th panzer grenadiers sign ! Why would a n m42 have double shields ?! And hand painted? My granddad came back in March 45 and it went straight in the loft until I was given it in 1992, so not been butchered by anyone ?! Great videos m thanks

I mean, I do have another original LW M40 in size 66 with what I think is a repro liner. Paint looks original, just doesn't have a decal. I would let that go for $500.
