Thanks for the great response. If I do this all successfully will the remaining gold be able to be separated out in a gold pan? Or will it be too fine?

Or you could hold a lit match to it for a few seconds. Pyrite will blacken, gold won't.

Hi Jeff, Thanks for making all these videos, it's a great resource. Is there anything a hobbyist miner can do to get the gold out of know gold bearing sulfides? If so may I suggest you do a video on the methods. In my personal case it is tetradymite (gold-bearing bismuth telluride). Thanks again.

Hey Jeff. Another way to tell the difference between gold and pyrite is in the sun light and shadows. When sun shines on gold and pyrite they both look like gold but cast a shadow on both of them and the gold stays gold color while the pyrite changes color

If you were panning or using something like a manual or auto sluice, would pyrite pieces float and get pushed out or would they be heavier than dirt and also sink down with the gold to be confusing? I'm thinking that because they are light and flaky, they'd probably float on the water and go out with the dirt, but not sure.

A short distance from my place is a old arm of the Fraser river that has filled in and only really flow's at high water . some area's have been mined for gravel and than left to fill in with ground water . would this sort of area be worth trying or would it be a waste of time .

What a fun video! We live here in Western NC. Love going to the gem mines. My little one has a collection to make most adults embarrassed. LOL She's got the touch. I have never been to sure about real or fools gold. Great way you have shown us to figure it out! Thank you! Many Blessin's sent your way!
