How To Tell The Difference Between Angel Wing and Dragon Wing Begonia's 🌺 // Trimming Begonia's ✂

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hey Ya'll...In this video I will be showing you the difference between Angel Wing and Dragon Wing Begonia's. I will also show you how I trim my Dragon Wing so it flushes out with more stems and blooms, keeping it lush and full. These two types of Begonia's are a South Florida favorite since they thrive in Hot and Humid conditions. I hope you all enjoy this video and if you haven't grow these types of Begonia's before, consider purchasing one for a spectacular display of blooms all season long.

A friend gave us this flower and I've been trying to figure out what kind of flower that is....angel wings begonia!:-) Ours is about 4ft tall, thank you so much for showing us how you prune them. BTW we love eating the flowers, they are sour and delicious in soup.

I grow them in my gardens every year. No fuss. No muss. They last well into October. The wine colour leaf is my favourite with either pink or red flowers. Delaware, Ontario Canada. Going to try propagating this year as they are $8 each at garden center in the spring.

@Dianne Ennis, did you have any luck propagating cuttings? I’m also in Ontario, Canada. Did you root hormone and pot up or root them in water first?

Hello Olga! I have just one growing in each of these baskets. When they finally started looking really scraggly, I pinched off some starters and replanted them in smaller containers. Thank you for watching the channel and Happy Gardening 😀🌺🌴

From the cuttings, can you get new starts for another plant? I;m new to Florida and just found your channel. I miss some of the flowers that I had in Missouri.

Hey Kathryn! I have never started my Dragon wing begonias from cuttings, but I know you can. If you do, I would recommend starting them in soil using a rooting hormone instead of starting them in water. When I do propagate other plant cuttings, I always use a root hormone for the best success. Let me know how it worked. Thank you for watching the channel and Happy Gardening 😃🌴🌺

Hey Lorraine! Yes, they sure can! They can be a bit temperamental, but with a little root hormone and patience...they will grow quite nicely ☺️

Those are Bronze leaf varieties vs. Green Leaf variety. and I have always called the variety you say is the Dragon Begonia -well, I have called it a Whopper Begonia. I live in Ohio and that's the name they place on them

I have a potted angel wing exactly the same as what you show at 4:00... it's tall and thriving, gets about an hour of morning sun, but it does not flower, EVER! Any suggestions? Maybe that's not enough sun? I usually reduce it by about 2/3rds when I do my winter pruning of roses etc. Thank you!

It sounds like maybe a little more sun and try giving it extra Phosphorus for blooms.

@@GrowingTropical thanks! I suspect lack of sun is the problem but I'll give the phosphorus a go.
