@@nathanfranks1476 So I've literally just rolled my trolley jack back into my garage. Jacked the car up and spun all four wheels after work this evening. Pretty sure the rears are ok. Fronts feel smooth when turning by hand, but doing the 'steering sweep' while driving home from work this evening, it seems the issue is likely pointing to the offside one. When spinning it quickly I think I can hear a tiny bit of clunking, but it's hard to tell with the ambient noise and the wind blowing in my ear. I'll order a bearing anyway and see how I get on.

Daughters 2014 C-Max Energi had tire noise that changed when the original 9 year old tires were rotated, front to back, with the cheaper 5 year old tires previous owner had replaced them with. The original Michelins had not, quite, gotten to the tread wear indicators but, because of age, and the Hankook were in the wear indicators all 4 were replaced with 70,000 mile Michelins. Because of radio volume, and the noise started gradually, she didn't realize how loud it had gotten. Good quality street tires tend to be quieter than cheap ones. Inflation and rotation.

I am an auto tech, and I can tell you that for the majority of wheel bearing diagnosis this method works well. There are a few odd ones that come in usually imports Honda and Toyota specifically, that the bearing will have zero play and by that have no change in sound loaded or unloaded. And the way to tell if it is bad is the old Airplane propeller sound. Many years ago my wife's Acura was starting to make this prop plane sound from the front of the car, and I checked the wheels clearance to brake calipers (they were very close but not touching ), I checked the bearings for wear or play - none found, I checked CV Axle nuts preload and that was in spec. I ended up replacing the knuckle assemblies which had the bearing pressed into it, and the noise was gone instantly. I took the old ones to a friend and told him about the sound, and he pressed them out and cut the bearings apart and showed me the wear spots in the bearings. Basically the case hardening starts coming off the rolling parts making little flat spots. And the Axle nut preload keeps the bearing from showing any play, yet still allowing it to make a fairly loud noise. I asked him why would the case hardening even comes off in the first place, and he said it's little stress cracks that form in the metal when the grease dries out in the sealed bearing, and the rolling parts get too hot and the hard surface cracks because it's also brittle and cannot withstand wide temperature changes.. My 02¢

You should still hear the woo woo woo sound when slowing down then it's a tire issue. Check if your tire is wearing on the corner of the tire then wheel alignment needs to be done n you can drive a few more till you buy new tires then do alignment once more. Wheel bearing noise needs to hit a certain speed to hear so if you slow down, you will not hear the woo woo sound then it's your bearing.

I noticed the sound immediately from the front tire(s) and this was also after the mechanic said my lug nut had been crossthreaded, and my hub might be damaged. I'm calling BS on that based on the sound, and what you described. Plus, how do I know that he didn't do the thread damage himself? I've been to the shop before, purchasing a pair of tires. He was also quick to point out that my rear brakes were shot. I appreciate the diagnosis, but I wonder if he was really working an upsell back then as well. Thanks again my friend. Typically that is more a sign of a failing wheel bearing. Sometimes diff or tire noise can be influenced by side load as well just to a milder degree
Had two new cars started making a roaring noise at speeds over 20mph. Around 24k miles or more on the vehicles. Both of them large sedans. Both times I was sure it was the bearings but it ended up being the tires. The tires still had lots of tread left... I was disappointed that I didn't get the expected tire life.

I once drove a car with terrible cheap tires and they sounded exectly like a bad wheelbearing. In corners the sound dissappeared but it did that in both directions, while a bad bearing would get louder in the opposite direction.
As I drive I have a humming noise it's louder and kind if a whirring noise that you made when I am up to 40+ and when I put loud on the left wheels. But my right tire has uneven wear. Also when I turn back and forth I have whining and while in a sharp low-speed turning I can hear popping noses when I hit small bumps, I feel like that part is my ball joint on either side I just can't under if that it alone or maybe the wheel bearing or tires somewhere factored in too

I jack the vehicle up and spin the rims/tires. If a wheel hub/bearing is bad, you can hear the grinding when you spin the rims/tires. Plus moving from side to side will cause the pitch change for sure while driving. I'm hoping the noise we are hearing on our 2012 G37 is the tires, not the trans as I'm 90% sure it's not the wheel bearings. The passenger side is super quiet no noise at all when I spin things, the drivers side has a tine bit of scraping sound but just barely and I attribute that to the brakes barely touching. Older tires from 2015 & 2018 on the car now, replacing the 2015 ones Tuesday and seeing how that affects the noise we are hearing.

Update?
What if it makes a noise every rotation? And slows down when I slow down and speeds up when I speed up?
On our 2013 G37 I suspect previous owner(s) put in the wrong power steering fluid and that is the noise I hear when driving. Nissan/Infiniti/Toyota uses Dexron ATF, NOT US style power steering fluid, which is what I believe is in the G now. Getting a pump from harbor freight today and getting started on this project...

Hopefully it’ll all be fine, you may even pull the return off the steering fluid reservoir and put it into a bucket, start it up and add fluid to the reservoir fast to flush it out, 2 person job
I noticed on my Jeep each tyre is a different size ( width and two of them that are lower profile than the other two) on decel it makes a wheeeeeeeee noise could it be tyres?
Hey! I hope you see this, I’ve been trying to figure out my problem for a while, sounds like a classic wheel bearing, changed both front hub assembly’s, it’s coming from the front. And nothing changed, the cv axils look good, no ripped or torn boots, and when I get 50+ there is a humming noise that happens as well, like a HMMMMmmmmmMMMMMMmmmmmMMM slow but it gets quieter and louder while I drive. The wheel bearing kind noise is only under drive, doesn’t happen in neutral so I don’t think it’s the transmission or anything. 3.1lv 6 fwd

Look at your thread wear on the corner of the tires. Alignment issue if is. If woo woo woo still stays when breaking to decelerate then not bearing issue.
Just went through this..Was positive it was a rear bearing.. Nope! What made it difficult to tell fir sure 1. Loud exhaust 2. Subaru bearings don't usually have "play" in them unless severely worn. 3. I had a noisy roller bearing in my gearbox at the time, adding to the tire noise a humming sound..Issue is noisy ass GT Champiro tires plus I need adjustable rear arms in order to get my alignment perfect since coilovers
A constant growling is another clear sign of a bad hub or wheel bearing. Unfortunately, sound likes to telegraph and sound like it's coming from the opposite side of where it's originating from. A good and thorough inspection will usually point one in the right direction.
What do you hear marbels in the front left?
I am a mechanic for 35 years the best way is to jack the car up and spin the wheel by hand and also feel for side play, you should rub your over the tyre tread and feel for uneven wearing
Changed my summer tires they are like 40 % .. The moment I changed and left from the mechanic I have some sound as if the vehicle is going on the rough road this usually happens at higher speeds .. before when I entered the mechanic it was super smooth with winter tires as the tires were also in good condition.. it’s obvious that it’s the summer tyres fault right ?? Not the wheel bearing

If it started immediately after tire install that's a safe bet
well i got the rocks out but i read somewhere tire noise could also be from low tires. so im gonna try to air them up then check
It can be the inner or outer tho so it can sound more metal to metal sounding
What if you think it’s the transfer case ?
Some snow made me drift into and up over a small curb with my driver side wheels at about 10mph. I've been hearing a sort of rattling/ scraping that is rhythmic that is directly tied to how fast my wheels are spinning. It's definitely not a growl or hum. The alignment was definitely affected but the noise does not get louder or quieter based on speed or turning. Is that enough to say it wouldn't be the bearing? And if not what could it be?

I’d check if you have a brake backing plate touching a rotor
Dude I've been looking all over for an explanation and everythimg keeps sayimg wheel bearing. But to your video it sounds like it might just be the tire I just had replaced which would save me so much headache
I bought a Honda pilot that was super noisy at even 5 miles per hour and the tire tread were wavy as they can be and at 55 it was vary noisy. A vehicle I currently have just suddenly had a noise that sounds vary similar and get louder if I take load off the affected side. I'm going to swap that tire to the rear and see if the noise moves with it if it does its a tire if not most likely a bearing. I've changed over 20 wheel bearing on my vehicles and friends and only one of them ever had any movement or noise when jacked up and tested.

Yeah I agree as far as testing goes, the only way I’ve found to verify a failed wheel bearing is put the car on the hoist with someone inside and run it up to about 50 or 60mph listening to the hubs from underneath with a stethoscope
