Sometimes you can actually tell if a wine is bad just by looking at the label. For example, if the label reads: "MD 20/20" then it's probably best to just pour it into your radiator and use it as antifreeze. Otherwise it might stain your lips red and you'll have to go around looking like Pee Wee Herman all day! "Mad Dog" is not a very good picnic wine either! I'm a wine expert. That's why I always sniff the plastic cap when I'm testing new brands!

I got a bottle of Bordeaux 2016, and when I opened it it made a slight fizz noise and the cork was very dark and with what seemed to be sugar residues, never seen that before. The wine tastes very acid even after hours breathing. It doesn't smell bad or anything, I guess it's just a bad year for that wine as I had the exact same wine but from 2018 and it was a beautiful bottle.

What you describe is the exact point of this video! She does not make a fantastic job of describing all the issues, but the point is your individual bottle is most likely off in some way, not that the vintage was a poor one. And for all you commenters with your sarcastic comments, this sums up perfectly the issue here - is it just not a very good wine, or is it off. One of the biggest problems is if you don’t know what to look for in telling whether a wine is off, you just accept you made a bad choice and you get no recourse. If you can tell it is off you can send it back! It is why in very high end restaurants the sommelier will actually taste the wine when they open it.

Ok. My 31-year old Hungarian wine's cork disintegrated. So I emptied it into a bowl and the red color is now tawny. Black sediment (lees?) came out of the bottom. I flitered it a few times and now no sediment or black stuff. I took a sip and I haven't died yet, but I did notice a Unicorn in my backyard that I never noticed before. I think I'll convert it into a wine cooler and see if the Unicorn goes away...

Chards that are brown doesn't necessarily mean its bad. It may be bottle shocked.

I got bad wine before, not just smelled like rotten cardboard, but rotten carpet instead.

Wine doesn't exactly "go bad". 😕 It just tastes different.
