if you want to learn about vintage
crystals stay tuned.
the most common item that people come
into the store and recognize from
childhood, is a clear aurora borealis
crystal necklace. but what does aurora
borealis mean anyway? well, this piece
right here you can see that the crystals
have a rainbow reflective quality. this
is actually a thin metal coating that's
been painted on top of the crystals. if
you bang the crystals on the ground,
you'll hear it sounds like glass and
they're really heavy. never ever ever
clean these with Windex because
eventually, it'll come off. this crystal
it does not have the aurora borealis
covering. it's just clear. equally as
pretty, just a little bit different. this
third one here, it's a good fake. it's
just plastic so when we bang it on the
glass it barely makes a sound and even
though it's three strands, it's lighter
and weight than the one strand. don't
forget crystals come in colors. this one
is a lovely brown color, kind of like a
smoky quartz. it has the matching earrings.
the yellow is really fun too. if you
happen to find a necklace that on the
back of the hook it says "Laguna", that's a
crystal company not unlike Swarovski of
today. they make wonderful things
typically from the 1950s and 60s. you can
wear these crystals with jeans or on
your wedding day. so enjoy!
