How to Teach Measurement in 1st & 2nd Grade // Research Based Measurement Activities
Wondering how to teach measurement in first and second grade? In this video, I share some research behind why students aren't excelling at measurement on nationwide tests and I share 5 activities to help students better understand measurement both conceptually and procedurally.

Love your comments at the beginning. You are correct we only spend about 7 days on measurement. You are also correct that our students seem to test lower on the measurement portion of state testing. I teach 2nd grade.
In our first grade curriculum, measurement is not covered in the book until the end of the year, yet measurement is tested on our STAR assessment each month. I do cover measurement and the other “minor” curriculum concepts each month. Usually there is a day after a topic, or a Review Day. But I try my best to cover measurement, time. money, geometry, data, calendar, etc….
I teach 2nd grade. Our curriculum for math updated this year to Eureka Math 2. First quarter it focused on metric system measuring to help with 1, 10, 100’s concept. We still have to customary measuring yet.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I love you approach to games and play in learning. My daughter learns best this way. As a homeschool mama, these affordable and ready to go resources are so helpful! I definitely purchased some goodies from your TPT!

I teach first grade our unit is measurement and telling time. This unit only lasts 4 weeks. I teach two weeks of measurement and two weeks of telling time.
Gr. 2 measurement about 3 weeks
I teach kindergarten and we spend 4 weeks teaching measurements
