We've been doing simple animal research for a couple of years. It is a great age appropriate way to introduce nonfiction, research, writing, mechanics and more. Typically 2 reports are completed within 3 weeks and some kids have gone to completing 3 reports.
We (first grade) used the Target blank books and made books about penguins together as we learned about nonfiction text features. The pages focused on different text features and we did this as more of guided practice. We practice writing facts that we learned about them. We then plan to let students use Pebble Go to pick an animal because many of my students are not able to read the nonfiction books. We love Pebble Go and will be using it as our main resource for finding animal facts. Our books are not as detailed as your outline but will encompass whatever text features students would like to include. I do think I have your "All About" book pages and hope to see if those work for our students this year!
Hello teacher Susan Jones, good afternoon! Great work, congratulations!. By the way, you look beautiful in the beginning of this video. The most of your videos are amazing and useful for me to improve my listening skill in English. I'm learning this language on my own since 2016. Have a good half-week wherever you are. Greetings from Sonora, México 🇲🇽. 🤗 🙏 💐
Dear Susan, I just watched this video and then promptly purchased your unit. I have a small Kindergarten class who have written a Personal Narrative and a How To paper. You made the comment that you like to do this informative writing unit in the winter. Do you think my students are ready to do this project? I know each group of children are different, but I know this is a long project and they have only done 2 other pieces of published writing. Just curious of you answer. I want my students to be successful and not get discouraged. I must tell you, after looking through your unit, I love the way it is so nicely laid out. I am so happy you gave us day by day instructions. I am excited about this unit and I know the students are going to love researching their fav. animal...although my student who loves unicorns will be disappointed that a unicorn is not a real animal!
Loved your video! it was great and very "informative!" Thanks so much!
yo thank you it help me so much
How do you make their work look like a book when project is completed ?
