I work for Magic Ears and I am from South Africa but I have been able to alter my accent to sound more North American. To be honest this has really helped me with getting hired with other companies too. I love working for Magic ears, I love their interactive platform and great cancellation policies. Thanks for all the information you make available to South African teachers!

Great video! I work on italki and Preply as an English tutor and am from South Africa. Both are great! Just a correction though. Italki takes 15% and not 11% as per your video. Also, for these platforms, you don't need any certification to become a community tutor. I did do my TEFL certification after already being on the platforms for around 6 months and then upgraded my profile to professional tutor. Verbling is also available to South Africans.

Hi Greg- tough question to answer. I charge $45 / hour for classes with Chinese students. Companies pay much less. Really just depends on you and who you work for or how much you charge if you are doing private online classes.

I want to do online teaching full time working with students from different countries. Which company do you recommend I apply to?

I guess the answer depends on the company. What company? Does the company have adult students? Cambly does but , yeah, they dont take everyone and because of the load shedding in SA, that might be why - if you are a SA'n.

I had heard that some companies would not hire if your age was up there. Honestly, I have not found that to be true. I do not think I look my age, but my application has my date of birth. While I was working ( I was let go by an unnamed company due to internet issues) I was getting hounded by three companies. In the meantime, I plan to apply locally for an Assistant Librarian position. While I am clueless about the pay it could be a long-term position which is what I am looking for. Thankfully, the qualification does not include an MLS.
