I teach 2nd grade and having anchor charts to help teach the various types of word problems would be very helpful! Also having sample word problems to use would be wonderful as well! I love your teaching tips!!
This would be a great resource to have! The program I currently use mixes all of the problem types together. Having a way to teach each type more explicitly would be so much better. Any anchor charts or catchy phrases you can include would also be helpful in making this tricky concept stick in their little minds. Thanks!!
I have never thought of word problems this way before. Brilliant! This makes so much sense! I would love some word problem teaching tools. Kind of like a problem or two a day, for each type of word problem. So maybe a teacher focuses on one type for three or four weeks, then do the second type of problem, but after a week, throw in the first type of problem as a review, then two days later, and so on, rinse, and repeat. Such a great idea you have here!
You have watched 5 minutes of Susan Jones teaching videos. Then, you decide to watch another 5 minutes of Susan Jones teaching videos. How many minutes of Susan Jones teaching videos have you watched in total? :)

hahaha that sounds like a JOINING problem to me!
A word problem resource with anchor charts sounds like an amzing idea! I would especially like the the examples of the word problems that the kids can practice with it. I love how to organize your products so I'm sure I will love what you come up with!
I am soooo interested!! Homeschooling mom. Not much formal teaching experience, and your breakdowns really help me help my kids to connect the dots. I feel like there have been holes in their understanding in public school and with your help I've been able to slow down and focus more on understanding what we are doing exactly. I really appreciate what your doing for the informal teachers.
That would be fantastic! Love how you did an overview of word problems in primary!!! Looking forward to your new product on them!
Definitely please!!!
Can't thank you enough for all your practical videos, much love from anEgyptian mother. I wish they teach like this English and math at my son's school here.
I think this sounds like a great resource! I teach second grade special education and am always looking for ways and resources to help students with word problems!
Yes, I am interested in the product.
I’m a homeschooling mom to a 1st grader and we have been struggling with comparison word problems. This has been incredibly helpful, thank you!!
YES! Please!
Hi! I am new to your channel and enjoy learning from you to teach my five-year-old word problems. Yes, I'm interested in the new bare-bones project that you mentioned at the end. Thank you!
One strategy I learned to teach was to cover the numbers! It sounds counter intuitive but this way the student can think if they are adding or subtracting first

Yes!! I meant to mention this in the video actually, but yes if students are still getting tripped up with smaller numbers, remove them completely and talk about what's going on in the problem!
Yes please! I teach K but I’d love to use with my accelerated students. I love your work!
These are brilliant ideas and I love the way they build from previous concepts so we don't have gaps. Also love the concrete-pictorial-abstract modelling throughout, so important! Im also in favour of, once kids get the idea, for them to formulate a problem based under each concept. That way, they're thinking in a different mind set and its always fun for kids to come up with problems for the class to solve... engagement!
This sounds like a wonderful addition to the SJT Math Club! Thank you for simplifying what can be very overwhelming for kids, and teachers! :)
I would love to have the product you described!!!
Look forward to the product!
Awesome tips! Your resoure sounds great.
i teach tech to adults. now i need to teach my son a little more on solving math word problems. thanks for the ideas!
yes!! definitely interested in math resources for this topic. I teach ICT 1st grade and we have been working on word problems for a while now. My kids are already struggling because a lot of them missed a good foundation of number sense in Kindergarten bc of covid.
I teach 4th grade math intervention. This was a great breakdown of the word problems.
Congratulations on your graduation! You are still the only channel that I subscribe to! Thank You!

THANK YOU! Yes, I am interested!
Yes, that would be very helpful.
I love your word problem example with the visuals. Do you have a powerpoint with the word problems to go over with students? Thanks!
Anchor charts should great. Would love to have a copy of these. Thank you
Student worksheets with mixed problems would be very beneficial! I have searched often and not found one. It is important for students to be flexible with their thinking and differentiate between strategies and problem types.
Interested. We use a six-step strategy to solve word problems in first grade. we use a part/part/whole mat with most of them. We use a lot of Greg Tang strategies.
That would be so helpful!! Thank you!
Thanks so much for sharing this resource, as a pre-service teacher I learnt a lot from your videos.
I teach Kinder and word problem strategies are part of our curriculum. I do many of the things you were talking about in this video, but I would be interested in seeing the anchor charts and if they would be helpful to my little ones. Thanks for all you do!
I think it would be very beneficial!
I teach grade 1 and an anchor chart for word problems would be a great great help. Thank you Susan, absolutely love your teaching tips and videos.
I am teaching K-2 tier groups of math word problems along with my own class of 1st graders during whole group math. Anchor charts would be wonderful!! Thank you!!

Definitely a great idea for teachers and students.
Moving from 6 to 1st. Appreciate your videos as I try to remember how to reach the Littles
This is extremely helpful.
👍 Word problems can be a challenge for kids, especially since they require a little more attention than regular sums!
That would be a great resource to use!
Yes, I would be interested in!
I have taught word problems all year. Do you suggest teaching word problems like a number talk? And we do talk alot about the problem, but I don't feel if it is a join or separate, but I guess I should. And they could tell me what v they think and how they know. Thanks for the video.

Anchor charts to help teach the three word problems would be very helpful! Thanks!
What would patterning word problems fall under? (ex. I had an apple on monday and tuesday, an orange on wednesday and thursday. What kind of pattern is this?)
Yes please!!!
Hi, wonderful videos and love to have the anchor chat. You always give great tips.
An Anchor chart would be great!
would like your product for teaching word problems
Yes
Hi Susan, I bought your english word problems worksheets. I wanted to know can I buy another one in Spanish? It's easier for my wife to understand in spanish even though everything he has to do is in english? Just wondering.
❤
This is so helpful by chance are you on Outschool?
Hi. My kid is struggling with word problems. He reads well but exactly what you said is the issue. analyzing the questions and relating it to the math needed to solve the word problem. However, I'm feeling and it's mostly my opinion. They just started learning to read. I feel like his 1st grade throwing this all at once is too much. I get that some of these types would be introduced and done in 1st grade but it seems like he's getting all of it right in 1st grade; literally all of what you said is in 1-2 is in half way through 1st grade. Why is the consensus that 1st graders should get this all in said grade? Learning to read and reading comprehension is important and while this may be part of that it shouldn't be the mechanisms of learning that. 1st they need to comprehend and then you slow introduce word problems IMHO. Frustrating. Can you give your opinion on how these teachings can be properly split between 1st and second grade?
I would love the anchor chart.
