I did most of what you suggested in the video (labor day, end of the month, several dealerships, trade-in and OTD price etc.) and finally locked down what I thought was a deal on the model (but not the color) I was interested in. But before pulling the trigger I walked across the street and asked my neighbor who had just retired as general manger from a local dealership and showed her the deal. After looking it over she said we could do better and was she right. We started the whole process over and thanks to her, over 4 years I'm going to save $4,600...

@@TingTingalingy Good luck with that. The market is not currently favoring the buyer as you probably know already. My neighbor was coming off of 40 plus years selling vehicles so she could walk the talk and wasn't intimidated in the least. If there was one thing that I could point my finger at is that she had came into the dealership with a deal from another dealership and really worked my dealership down from there. It was spectacular to watch.

I have bought several cars in the last 6 years, I email dealers and ask for the best out the door price printed out. It really works, no phone calls, not spending hours at a dealership. You walk in with the printout and buy the car. if there is any deviation in price you lay the paperwork down and say this is the deal.

We spent 4 hours at a stealership negotiating a particular car 2 years ago. We asked forTOTAL price. TOTAL.The salesman provided the price and we verbally agreed. Finalizing the paperwork the total price was significantly higher. We walked. He was taken back. Followed us outside wanting to know why. We never told him-just left. Didn't owe him an explanation. We decided at that point that buying any vehicle from this source isn't worth it. Instead we found a nice used vehicle from a private owner for a very reasonable price. How about this one Dave? When buying a newer USED VEHICLE, ask the dealership to have their mechanic RUN THE VEHICLE'S ELECTIRCAL CODES IN FRONT OF YOU. If they are not willing to do that, then walk away. I never heard this method mentioned for prospective used car buyers (at dealerships of course) to do or ask of the salesman. WHAT SAY YOU DAVE? I would go as far to say if they come up with ANY excuses not to have one of their service shop mechanics run the code check, then a person should walk. Also (for added effect if they claim their mechanics are busy), then if it's a car a used buyer might be super interested in, tell them your willing to pay a few dollars just to have their mechanic run the codes in front of you. Of course I still feel it is a bit of a red flag if they are reluctant or want to charge to have one of their mechanics run the coeds on the vehicle. Interested to hear your thoughts on doing this practice when thinking of maybe buying a newer used vehicle at the dealerships. Thanks.

“Codes” will only pull if there is a “fault code” light on. And if there is at a dealership, don’t wait for them to “read the codes”. You should already be leaving anyway.

Doing lots of research on this. Didn't know about the end of the month, but does make sense, heard this years ago, just like to order a new car or truck on a Wednesday from the factory. Mon and Tues they don't want to think about work, Wednesday they will not think about yesterday and the coming up weekend, on Thursday they will for sure think about the weekend, and Friday they do not care, so forget about them doing a good job on building your car or truck that day.

I’ve been selling cars for a few years now, every salesman/dealership is different. Each one has their own style, and own way of making money. The car sales industry is stereotyped as a crooked, grimy, dirty, greedy industry, and no car salesman can be trusted, “We just want your money.” WE ARE NOT ALL LIKE THAT. My job is to help you get in the vehicle YOU want, and the vehicle YOU feel would suit you and your needs best! And at a price you’re satisfied with. I could not care any less about what you buy, because regardless of what you buy from me, I’m getting paid regardless. And my customer leaves the lot happy, feeling like a kid with a new toy on Christmas! No matter what they’re in. And WE DONT CARE if you have a trade in or not, we’re in the SELLING CAR business! If you trade something in, that’s just more of a headache for us anyway. It’s more WORK lol. And If you go to a dealership, look at the sales price, and think that’s your out the door price, don’t blame it on us! “WhEn We GoT bAcK tO fInAnCe It WaS mUcH hIgHeR” 🤪 Its called STATE TAXES AND FEES. There’s no way around that, at any dealership you go to. It’s just the name of the game. Anybody that doesn’t know that probably shouldn’t be buying a car. When you’re car shopping, be open minded with your salesman. Don’t assume he just wants your money, because most of us really just want to help you. Why do you think we chose to interact with people for a living even though we’re not guaranteed a check? Assume your salesman is there to help you, because he is! Assume he is until he gets too pushy or overbearing, and too insisting. Those are red flags! If he’s not in it to spread joy, he’s in it for the wrong reasons. 👌🏻

I sell cars... Some good stuff in here and I really do enjoy customers who know what they are doing. But, you aren't getting my best price over an email so you can take that to every Chevy store in the city that has the same discounts and rebates on Silverado's that we do. The customer will never inquire about a specific car if they think the price is too high. The internet is the ultimate equalizer in terms of price. There's not a salesmen or desk manager in America that will show a customer a lower price without a commitment to buy. And please please for the love of god, tell your salesmen up front about your trade. We can appraise it without taking your keys if you like. The whole hidden trade trick is very old school and it doesn't work anymore. If you do the whole negotiation, and got the price lowered before appraising a trade, you will NEVER get what you want for your trade. Can't have it both ways. My advice is simple, if someone has a car you like, don't fill out a web inquiry. Call them, if it's a specific used car, have a sales guy go out and take a selfie in front of it and send it to you, set up a time for a test drive, and if you like it, work out a deal and buy it. I've emailed customers for three days about pricing only to have them come in and not like the car. Huge waste of time for everyone. Also remember this, if you find yourself negotiating on monthly payment, you can't afford the car. Find out how much you can spend on a car before you start shopping. If you tell your sales guy you are wanting to put down $5,000 and be $600 a month, he's not going to show you the $50,000 car you want, he will do what we call a "step sell". He will show you a $30,000 car first and when you tell him you don't like it, he will say this car is in your payment range and the one you came in on will be $900 a month, which is true. The way to avoid this is to know before hand there's no way you can ever be $600 a month on a $50,000 car with $5,000 down.

@mikemesta1 Thats ridiculous. If the dealer is willing to give me a solid price on the car i want, why would i want to beat it? Thats called greed and im sure there are many here who just want honesty and transparency. Im shopping for a Toyota tacoma , used willing to do mid teir mileage for low 20's but i hardly see any dealerships anywhere near that range. Most are pricing a 6-8 year old truck with 60-100 k miles still at 30,000$ minimum, ridiculous. What that tells me is they are not interested in customer service but in killing the customer and leaving them with all the risks. If dealers would actually treat the customers individually , get to know them and their situations and work with them, they would have customers for LIFE . They would make WAY more money in the long run. Reputation, honor and righteousness wins over greed and manipulation. For example Duro trans mechanic shop here in SOLFO delray beach. Look up the testimonial comments on their google review. They have so much buiness they cannot keep up because they are beyond honorable and humble ans actually care about the people that come to them. Its a win.
