The Mexico City Subway is nothing like how the New York City Subway was in the 1980s, but as a tourist living in Mexico City, I do feel a bit misplaced and on guard - same as what Bruce Davidson felt when he documented the NYC Subway.
If you have a recommendation for which photo book I should base my next photo walk on, just comment below! And I must say, this is not the last time I’m doing my street photography in the Mexico Metro Station.

Thank you so much Ondra!
Respect for this one Fred!! Most people don't even make eye contact with strangers on the subway. Here you are making a whole video hahaha. That takes courage, and the photos were well worth it!

Maybe in other subways... in Mexico City's metro, people DO make eye contact (and sadly other types of contact as well).
The narration of the book while you were taking your photos is a great idea!
The quality of this video is so high! I love the voice-over, the story telling, the photos and the connection with your subjects. I follow many photographers in social media, but you're definitely the most inspiring one! Keep up the great work :)

Wow, I just loved every photograph, you are a legend.
Excellent video, I'm a Mexico City citizen, and let me tell you something, it's actually impressive how they let you take pictures inside the subway. Police guards from the subway here in Mexico City can be really aggressive if they see you holding a camera, or a camcorder. I remember this one time I was in the subway, I was testing a 50mm lens I had bought for my DSLR, I wasn't even taking pictures, I was just mounting the lens to my DSLR body, in a matter of seconds a police guard noticed me holding the camera, all of a sudden there were 2 of them, they told me that any kind of photography was forbidden inside the subway, and they asked me to delete every picture I had taken, I told them I wasn't taking pictures, my camera didn't even have an SD card inside. They let me go at the end, but it clearly seemed they were actually annoyed.
This was such a beautifully made video, Frederik! Thank you for putting so much work into it.

So beautiful to capture people as they are in every day life. You did an amazing job.
You have a knack for keepin' it real. Don't stop!
I was looking for a video of people taking photos in the subway so that I had the courage to do so. When I saw your video taking pictures in some of the stations I pass by everyday to go to school I knew I could do it. Thx for inspiring
Amazing photos. Some of their expressions convey a vast depth of emotion which, I in turn, read into and gain an understanding of their thoughts and, in some cases, their lives
Well I am way late to this party as you did this video over 2 years ago but I love this and the connection you have with the people in the subway through the shots. I have always loved how people are sort of suspended and put on pause when they rush onto the train.... wait still and almost motionless and then burst into action again as the doors open and they race off. You seem to have captured them so well in that suspended moment. I do not know Bruce Davidson's work and will be investigating more. Thank you for doing this video and the others in the 'Take Photos Like' series. I am loving the inspiration I am getting from them.
the main love what we do, here the true photography you are gifted, it feels.
This is wonderful Frederik. Forget about incorporating flash. Your video shows that the best 'equipment' for street photography is openness and empathy. I'm not sure how much they can be learnt but the take-away for me is to embrace the interactions rather than fearing them (easier said than done). You can't capture what you don't love!
I had fallen out of love with photography for many different reasons. Then completely accidentally, I stumbled across a video of you being interviewed - not sure how, as I was looking at New Orleans Jazz music videos at the time - anyhow, there is something about your unassuming approach that had me hooked and this, only the second of your videos I have watched, has been equally rewarding. Thanks for renewing my interest, I might even get my cameras out again.

I love this. I love the poetic narration. Great job Sir.
I like how you described your preparation, your set-up, your gears... It gives us the idea how much you wanted this project and how you prepared for it.

Your work in this video is awesome, inspiring stuff!
These photos are incredible! I am still finding my balance when it comes to taking photos of strangers, but whoa! These photos give me lots of inspiration towards my goal of street photography (doubt I'll ever be able to take photos of someone on a subway). And though I find your photos to be inspiring, your commentary throughout was upsetting and does raise a few questions.
A really great video and great pictures too! I’m looking forward to more videos like this!
Great content, beautiful pictures! More of this please .
