    I find using a polarizing filter on a drone only works when: you are taking a still image and have preplanned the orientation to the sun (as you confirmed). If I am creating a drone video, the polarizing filter, in my opinion, can be used effectively when you are doing specific short clips with some intelligent flight modes (Tapfly and ActiveTrack - if tracked object is moving on a straight, predetermined line). I don’t think a polarizing filter works for Circle of Interest or free manual controlled flight as well. As you also mentioned, more planning is needed to define in advance the flight paths if polarizing filters are used.

  • @DroneFilmGuide

    @DroneFilmGuide

    For sure, polarisers are tricky. Most videos just say "use a polariser" but that's really only 1% of the story.

    Great video tutorial. I've shot 4k video and pulled stills from it in the past, trying to fly, keep an eye on the drone, look at the screen, and take photos at the same time isn't that easy. I'm bad at multitasking, so using Lightroom's frame capture feature in the Library module is great. The files aren't as good as raw images, but are serviceable most of the time.

  • @DroneFilmGuide

    Pretty much! It's a PixaPro 100W LED with a big octa as you indicate. There was no negative fill as you indicate, just lots of dark garage space so nothing for the light to bounce off, hence the dark shadows on the faces. Now we have big panels of acoustic foam hanging vertically down the left side of the table as you look at it. Will do a studio tour once we get our audio set up with a new sound recorder and shotgun mic. Productivity improvement 1000%!

    Thanks for this very helpful tutorial! A question if you don't mind, I have the M2P and was wondering if I should change the shutter speed (I usually do video in 25 FPS) from 1/50 to a higher value to ensure sharpness.

  • @DroneFilmGuide

    @DroneFilmGuide

    5 жыл бұрын

    A higher shutter speed won't make your video sharper if that's what you mean. Certainly for photos, if you are shooting at 1/50th maybe step it up a bit but not for video. High shutter speeds for video can make the footage look a bit jumpy if there's lots of movement in the shot. That being said, for more sedate flying you'll not notice much difference.

  • @peterjb49

    @peterjb49

    Stewart! Can I ask you something. I purchased your course. Not sure which one. Sorry. I don’t dive into them as much as I should. That’s changing as I progress. I’ve missed some opportunities because I didn’t have the software to put property lines in. I use basic Video editing . It came on my current computer. I see people using different software. I’m confused on which one to get! I see plug ins for property lines but not sure which one they plug into. Can you link me to some of your stuff that explains some of these issues? This is a new thing for me and I could certainly look them up.

    Great video! Thanks for the tips. But what are your thoughts on photography when using an ND filter? I use an ND for video but find it difficult to get sharp images due to the low shutter speed.

  • @johncharles9005

    Sorry I know you mentioned this. But if you want sharp images do you need to remove the ND?

  • @DroneFilmGuide

    @DroneFilmGuide

    5 жыл бұрын

    Assuming the ND is good quality then the only variable is the shutter speed (as opposed to the ND introducing softness). As such, if the ND still lets you shoot 1/100 or faster then you should be fine but if not, you'll have to land and take it off.

    We use 15" mid 2015 Macbook Pros and they edits 4k perfectly. Have no intention to upgrade anytime soon. Plus if it all gets a bit much for the computer (H.265 Mavic 2 Pro footage for example) then it's easy to create proxy files in FCPX. If you're not shooting H.265 DLog-M on an M2P then you have nothing to worry about.
