Use your impact wrench and you won't have to use a box wrench on top. BIG help!!! If you have a trailer, you can lower the ramp/gate and go up one side or the other, leaving one of the front wheels off the side of the gate. You can get right under the deck without using a jack.

A set of car ramps works very well and no danger of a 1200 lb. mower falling on you when you are cleaning the deck or changing blades. I paid about $30 for the composite ramps, they are stronger than the metal ones.

This technique worked great. Box wrench on the top while using the socket on the bottom was the key for me. Thanks for posting.

That is a wide deck and I saw one thing which worried me and that is the car jack which has been known to let the load drop. I got a special jack from Harbor Freight which is easy to lift the mower by the wheels and much higher and is safer. They are making mowers cheaper today with plastic parts rather than metal ones. That is why I have to look at the equipment before buying it today. I have a John Deere z445 mower and love it when it is working fine.

There is no name on the jack, but it is one they had on sale at the time for $79.95, which was a $10.00 discount at the time I got it. It is the type which has a pedal on the cylinder to pump up the mower using your feet, and another pedal to lower it. It also comes with a bolt to place in a hole provided so if the cylinder fails while the mower is jacked up, it won't fall. I used it to lift my lawn tractor and it lifted the unit very high so I could do anything under there.

That is what I have to do also, though it isn't left there. i keep it under a shed when not in use. I recently used it on my Craftsman Lawn tractor to lift it up and replace a belt for a second time. This jack comes in handy for me and I don't think I do without it. It is an important tool for anyone.

Holy crap that is the hard way to do it. Drive a front tire up on a car ramp, Slide 3 ton jack under center front lip of the deck. Quickly jack it up. Grab impact gun with 15/16 socket and zip the blades right off. I can change a set of blades on a commercial zero turn in 2 minutes.

I took the rear roll bar off and attached it to a rectangle motorcycle lift table. Then attached a winch on the top of roll bar. Drive on table, lift table 4 ft off ground and then winch the deck up and use air line to impact gun.

Posted former post before I saw what looks to be an electric impact. Why didn't you use it? I've been running mowers and doing all of the routine maintenance for over 40 yrs never torqued to a specific ft/lb and never had a problem.

Another reason to use an impact wrench to loose/tighten the blades is to keep your friggin hands as far away from the blades as possible! I used to do it the way you show in the video, but last summer I had a mishap with the wrench on top of the deck popping loose as I was tightened the nut on the botton, and cut the back of my hand badly. Severed a tendon even. Now I use an impact wrench. I'll never do it manually again. Please don't make the mistake I made.

What about round-holed blades? I can remove and install them with an impact tool but I can't torque them with a torque wrench. I'd need a pulley holder.

Good video I have a 2002 60 in master. In the 1950s bumper Jack. Never have your head above handle. At junk yard. Friend was jacking up car with bumper Jack. Started to lower with his head above Jack. Catch gave and Jack handle looked like machine gun it was moving so fast. Handle caught in under jaw. Right thru to teeth it was ugly. Big hole under chin and knocked teeth out. I'm 78 now never forget that. Floor jacks. Brother in law was going to lower large van. Bam Jack broke down it came. Lucky no parts of his body were under the van

Definitely not how you do this. You need to drop the deck down and remove it. Then flip it over to access the blades. No way in hell im getting under this thing with a plastic bucket holding it up. I’m surprised you are even using a torque wrench as many corners you cut
