Yea it’s nice that in order to know how something(life as well) works you must tear down and rebuild to find out what does what machines and humans are so similar just think of us as robots a

Thanks. Figured out how to fix the transmission lever on my own but that power button was all kinds of weird. Thanks for the teardown instructions. Got it running again.

Thank you so much for this video. Bought a Sentria for $7 at a thrift store and through the magic of amazon and $40 I got belts, bags, and silicone after seeing you replace it. now have a rebuilt vacuum to finally replace my long suffering bissel (also a rescue) oddly enough, my lower base seems to be metal? in the video you mention they started making them plastic, but I guess they hadn't started that yet in 06

I always liked the bag on that model. It kinda has a retro look to it. I have sold and rebuilt many Kirby vacuum cleaners and even though I love them all, I actually like the ones made before the Tech Drive. They are amazing when working properly, but a pain in the ass when they mess up. I used to spend hours in my shop playing with them, figuring out how to adjust them, etc. with trial and error. It wasn't until I discovered your channel as well as Vaclab, Kirby Enthusiast, etc. that made things easier when adjusting them. I used to just simply replace the transmissions, but now I am able to make them last until replacing them is absolutely necessary.

A lot of the styling on both Sentrias (particularly the font used on the boxes/manual) reminds me of the Sanitronic models. Very 60s. And some of the Avalir styling reminds me of the Heritage series, specifically the Kirby “K” pattern on the bag.

Taking a look at how well this was restored and how much life it seems to still have in it in spite of having been cheapened out a bit compared to the older ones, I can't help but wonder whether a conscientious technician could make a decent business out of rescuing and restoring old Kirby vacuums. Granted, they'll never be as good as a Sebo or a Miele; however, some people seem to have a sentimental attachment to them or enjoy the vintage aesthetics enough to accept the compromises incumbent in such an outdated design.

Wouldn’t it be better for kirby to make a gasket rather than silicone sealant?

  • @PerformanceReviews

The silicone sealant seems to last longer than other direct air vacuum gaskets which usually only last a couple years. The silicone gasket seems to last about a decade.

Kirby’s are the best machines I’ve ever used I’ve got older models mainly and 2 sentria 1 and I’d like to get the older ones serviced because one has a grey fan which I’ve heard is bad for breaking
