How to Tailor NHS Job Application for IMG Doctors I Personal Statement & Supporting Information
In this video, I have explained how to improve your personal statement and supporting information on the NHS job application forms.
I have taken a job advert as an example and written a mock statement in this video which may help you understand how to improve your own form.
This is an example of tailoring your form according to the requirements of the jobs advertised as a junior doctor.
I am a Consultant working in the NHS and have over 18 years of NHS exposure and this is based on my experience of how a doctor can improve their form to get better chances of shortlisting.

Thanks and welcome
Thanks for the video! Very helpful! But I never seen a separate section for the personal statement in job application forns. Could you please clarify where to write all this information in the application form?
Much needed video❤️
Thank you it's really helpful 🙏
Much needed video
very useful, thanks
Thank you so much
Thank you for your valiable video. However, in the highlight for personal statment section; it is clearly noted not to replicate any information already provided in the previous sections. In your example, you replicate data such as graduation date. Is this accepted? Finally, I found your example very useful for me.
This is very helpful
Thank you so much for this amazing video. I have recently gotten my GMC registration and I’m yet to apply for jobs, I’ve done an attachment in the UK but what’s making me anxious is that I don’t have any research or audits under my name, nor any post grad degrees; kinda feeling lost and low. Could you please make a video for people like me who don’t have much to brag about in their CV?I feel like there’s no point of passing PLAB 2 unless I had an MSc / MRCP pt 1. I’m feeling really demoralised.
Very helpful sir
Thank you for the video. Can I ask where can I write my lab fellowhips and observerships abroad while in med school Qualifications? Training?
Thankyou so much sir
Thank you sir
Thank you for the useful video! May I ask how long is an acceptable gap? I do have a lil bit more than a year of a clinical gap after my internship which I used preparing for exams to be licensed, is this an issue?!
Thankyou
Fantastic info Dr Adnan! Could you please suggest, in cases where NHS experience (say 6 months) is in essential criteria, do we still proceed to apply for that advert (if it allows)?
Dr Raja, I wanted to ask one thing, if I don't meet all the essential criteria is it still fine to apply for the job? Another question Is it worth putting examples in the supporting statement like ward examples during internship ? Thanks
Great video Dr Raja, May I ask would that be okay if I write supporting information part exactly like personal statement? Very glad and appreciated if you reply my comment!. Thanks again,
Thank you sir for your guidance, most of the time personal statement needs to be within 400 words.then we may not be able to write in such detail sir.
I have one question. What if an IMG has not been able to find a training or non training job that is in a tertiary care hospital like many of our countries have job saturation, physical and economic impossibility to move into another city because job doesn't pay enough or job offer is unpaid. And the person is then working as a general practitioner or in a primary care set up, immediately after housejob, can we still use that to our advantage that we have been practicing medicine and this has helped out skills of communication as well as diagnosis and management?
Is it ok to mention each person specification as heading and giving detail below?
Can we apply from our home country or do we need to be in UK?
Thanks a lot Doc. This is indeed useful. Doc, I need a clarification on this; if there are specific spaces for teaching experience, research and audit, leadership and management experience, team work, do we need to write about all the aforementioned again in the big space (1,500 words limit) provided or we just go ahead to write about others with no specific space?. Thanks, Doc

You do not need to repeat yourself but you can mention that in short.
Thank you very much for the crucial information I am a bit confused about job applications that have both personal statement and supporting information section. Usually the former has 400 words limitation while the later has 1500 words as maximum ceiling.

In these cases can you please tell me should i write the introduction in the first one(400 words) and the rest in the 1500 words? Or the whole thing in concise form in 400 words and then again the elaborated one in 1500words? I will be obliged if you clarify this and thank you. Your video is really helpful
Thank you so much for this video. I have a question. Can you please let us know if salutations should be put at the beginning and the end like we are writing a letter to the HR? Also should we not put headings as otherwise it would just apper as a long paragraph without distinctions? Thanks again

What is the difference between supporting information and personal statement ?
@Dr Raja I have a query. If GMC registration was done 4 years ago and license to practice was issued but given up that due to not in UK as working outside UK. Now due to personal priorities looking for a job in UK. Do you advice to restore it after getting job offer or restore now while applying as if it takes time to get an offer then revalidation problem may not be there
Dr Raja thanks you and this video is useful.I'm a registered nurse please can you help with any idea for nurses
Thank you for this video Dr. Adnan. I had a question- that is that most of the essential criteria in the person specification has already been spoken of in the appliction. For example there is an entire section on teaching, leadership, research, awards and distinctions. In that case are we supposed to mention it again in the supporting information as it usually says to not repeat information?

Briefly mention it. No need to give full details. The other sections you mentioned have more details
Thank you very much for your informative and useful video. Here, I would like to ask the differences and what personal statement and supporting information are. I search only but no idea yet

Thank you so much for this incredible help... I have some queries... 1. What's the difference between cover letter and personal statement? What is each for? 2. Where to write the person statement either on the first page of our resume or as a separate document?

Your questions are outside of what I am describing in this video. This is specifically for the NHS jobs application form. There is no need for a CV when you are applying via the website. The cover letter is when you send the CV
Doctor Adnan i have a query , if n application is asking for both personal statement and supporting information. How to write them both?

Heyy, can u help me regarding how to enhance the chances for applications to get shortlisted?
Since this is an example and you have mention each point separately for each paragraph , putting them together in the form paragraph would look chaotic. How to go about it??
How do i get gmc registration? Im MBBS/MD from India
