Hol up, you didnt get the 6-speed? I mean sure the 5 is pretty much as durable but keep the newer 6-speed 37dz/bz zf in mind too for future projects. It's gearing match the volvo diffs better for dailying and they are as afforable and even more widely available in Europe than the now old and rare-ish 320z. Im certain the 320z will do for a drift car though as gearing isnt an issue

Actually 320z has longer 1,2,3,4 gears than 37dz/bz. That means if you put 3.15 rear gear ratio like I did you get a lot better pulls from the line when running high horsepower setup. With 37 you have to try launch from 2 gear and that sucks. So you didnt get the 5 speed? Too bad for you.

@@CzMnHD I have the exact 320z in my e36. Even on that Id like the sixth gear of the gs6 boxes, which plenty of people I know run as the 320zs get rarer. Having driven one in a volvo I cant say I noticed the first being very short on the 37. Also the gasoline version gear ratios are almost identical to the 320z anyways, with only first being slightly shorter at 4.35 ratio vs. 4.21. It may still be a substantial difference for proper dragging chasing tenths, but personally Id prefer the 37 for the 6th gear and better availability.

@@unuseableb Gasoline version 37 does not have better availability than Diesel. Almost all 37 are diesel versions. Diesel version has very short gears and is bad (need extra adapter bearing for the shaft extension)

That'll just about do it! I looked up the transmission and it came in E46 325xi, 330i as well as E53 3.0i X5, all 3 of which I believe N.A received in larger numbers than Scandinavia, shouldn't be too hard to source if you need a new one. Also most deffo spotted longtitudinally oriented bolts further behind aft on the bellhousing, so I think you should be able to make do with just swapping over that part of it to a new transmission if need-be, instead of having to weld a new one.

Any bmw trans that bolted to inline 6 would work the same
You should change the hose to the slavcylinder to brake pipe instead, that because the original hose expands and you Will loose clutch power. Only a tip but i always do that to my cars😎
Everyone says my 240's 5-speed is glass but i've been beating on it nonstop with over 200k. Interested to see what other options are out there if i kill this thing.

is it turbo? it can probably handle more NA power but I think where people have issues is with higher boost cars

no companies make an adapter for this trans to b230. can only find tremec t5, cd009, and in sweden a GS637DZ

Those driveshaft bolts needs to be grade 10.9 or they’re gonna bend

This looks to me like 260Z from diesel 325tds/525tds not 320z.

Yeah I have S5D-320Z gearbox and this one on the video is different gearbox. This one looks like its the 310z gearbox that is more common. Its pretty much the same but i've heard 320z is a bit maybe 50-100Nm of torgue stronger. 320z is hard to find from M3 e36 or 328 e36 bmw.
