How do you convince a person that he is sick and need medication? . I've tried most methods to get the person to continue his meds. He doesn't listen as he feels he's alright.

I'm 99% sure people diagnosed with Schizophrenia are actually Autistic (neurodivergent) who are also clairvoyant/ psychic mediums

Looooove the mom's discussion on approaching her son as an adult and his own person. As the caregiver of my mother, I'm really struggling with this.

I can only imagine. Love is love. You must love yourself and love caring for you mom. Having inner conflict means you are struggling, so, It’s important you figure what that is? You caring for your mom, or is it feeling guilty for considering maybe getting someone else to?

@@aleksandrat9184 I think her issue is with treating her mom as an adult and giving her mom autonomy while still making sure that she's getting the care she needs. It can be hard, especially if the person who needs help doesn't want it. My grandmother absolutely refused to be put into an old age home or even to keep up with her own illnesses (regular old age stuff like diabetes and high cholesterol) until my dad found her in her bed with a foot that was close to needing to be amputated (bad blood flow to your extremities is a symptom of diabetes) and in the early stages of a stroke. She didn't end up losing her foot but she did end up losing the majority of her sight to the stroke. It was especially sad because the whole family knew she needed more care but she refused it and we didn't want to take away her autonomy. Still not sure whether we made the right decision on that, but also not sure there was a right decision 🤷

More communities should have mental health teams to deal with people in crisis. Specially trained police units are a step in the right direction, but I'd prefer to separate public health services from the criminal justice system.

I have so much respect for these people to talk about Schizophrenia so openly. They are helping so many others at the price of putting them self in a vulnerable position. I wish them all the strength, all the support and all the love in the world.

Can I just say how well you facilitate these conversations. Very very professional. I'm directing my clients with psychosis experiences to your channel for very high quality, reputable information, provided in a way that I as a psychologist, can't offer. ... From real lived experience. Thank you so much 🤗

I did not have to call police on my son, but was prepared to, when he had his latest bout with psychosis, and hospitalization. Fortunately, my mother and I were able to get him to agree to go to the ER. Even that decision was a hard one, but the best decision I have made for his sake! Make the hard choice it can be to insist your loved one gets help❤️

Jason and Maye Jepson are to be commended for the terrific job they do in managing Jason's illness.

These interviews with people living with SZ and their families/supporters are so helpful. Thank you everyone for doing this. It really helps to de-stigmatise SZ and show that they are humans and 'normal' people whatever 'normal' means. Love the idea of a 'Trust Partner'.

I have reached my peak in life after being diagnosed with schizophrenia. So its not all gloom and doom.

yes, I didn't accept my schizophrenia at first but when I did, it was the best decision I had made. I'm on the right medication after it changed three times.

Jason is so lucky to have the support he does. Accepting you have schizophrenia requires insight and lack of insight is one of the main barriers to treatment

They are so amazing the mother is so sweet and lovely, she is so accepting and I love their attitude towards Jason's disorder it's a great mindset to have!!! :)

Hi I have suffered with mental illness for 30 years. I have found your videos very inspiring and experienced a lot of the symptoms talked about. The one thing I don’t have is family or support from friends which has dwindled over the years. Now I have my mental health team and my partner

My husband is going to be 61 he was diagnosed with schizophrenia only 2 1/2 years ago. He ended up and critical care for 9 days. But we didn't think it was a correct diagnosis. What happened was we were getting ready to move and he sweats extremely easily. I found him early in the morning wandering in the street. I got him dressed and took him to urgent care. They did blood work ruled out heart attack and stroke. Later that same day they called us and said his electrolytes was 120. We immediately got him to the hospital. He went crazy and was having delusions and hallucinations. So I was convinced it was due to electrolytes. He got a lot better but now listening to your videos, I believe he does have the schizophrenia as well. My heart is torn and we've had to get a court order to have him evaluated. He's refusing to see any doctors or get help.

Incredibly helpful to me as a parent of an adult with schizoaffective disorder.

Mom, you’re a hero and I want to emulate you. Treating him with respect like an adult son not a sixteen year old really resonated! Jason, you communicated so well! Lauren, you are an excellent facilitator.

Thank you to the parents for loving and supporting their wonderful son Jason. Nothing substitutes an unconditional love. I hope the non veterans can also get the same level of help and support that they need.

Jason, Maye and Lauren... great interview, i see a lot of myself in Jason's struggles. I know accepting I have schizophrenia was a life changer, its like a series of symptoms the meds mostly block but you have bad memories from when they were untreated. I'm praying for you Jason, keep on going strong and like you said acceptance and trust your doctors, two lessons I need on a daily basis. Blessings

By bad memories, do you mean the experiences of running into conflict with other people, or the memory of how it felt to be in that (untreated) mental state?

@@HiAdrian the untreated state. I can blame a lot of ppl if i had room in my heart to judge, but i don't. I find judgment exacerbates my symptoms, far better to work on just what i know and what i know for sure doesn't exist. but there was a long time where i had no clue but was heavily paranoid.

I wish my mom would accept she needs help with this, but she refuses to acknowledge that she is a schizophrenic. There is so much possible, but acceptance is a really big step which I know is difficult to make.

A friend has just been diagnosed with schizophrenia and this was most helpful as he is not accepting the diagnosis. Easier said than done but good advice. Thank you.

Beautiful Jason keep continue with your recovery. Unfortunately we going trough a lot , my son scyzofernia. And he is struggling , and not treating himself and our life’s just become like hell. Praying to god that one day they found medication for this weird illness. Those medication just give some relief, it’s not treat anyone Yet in this planet.

I have now lived with it for 28 years and moved on to a newer antipsychotic medicine in that time due to advancement in the medical field. Great video Lauren, yes Jason is so right in saying acceptance of your diagnosis is the first step to recovery. Jason also stated being totally honest with your treating doctor no matter how out there your thoughts or questions may be. Two amazing people with such a huge amount of love and trust for each other. If only everyone could be so fortunate to have such a strong support. It's absolutely devastating to think of all those out on the streets who may have not had that help to catch them when they fell.

In my town, Mobile, Alabama, the police officers are trained to deal with the situation and I have always been impressed by the respect and kindness they show.

Well I am a single mom who has had to call on my own son for several situations but my son gets physical and no concept of boundaries and when he is like that he can cause harm to others or himself. With the police around he will calm down and he will do what they tell him and we both need someone at that point to make him stop. He refuses all forms of help.

It does depend on the situation though. If a person is being violent then a solo nurse might not be suited to the job (though if they're not, then I completely agree with you). Ideally I think both a nurse (or paramedic) and a police officer should be involved for violent situations.

I think religion has a bit part of it somentimes we belive we are the chossen one

I waited too til it got worse and then accepted to get help. I didn't even realise how ill I was. Now im volunteering in mental health and helping those with psychosis.

Thanks to this video, It has been helpful, I have no support for my son and I other than my creator, and this video has been of encouragement to a mom who is just so frightened at the behavior of my son the schizoprhrenic, I love him and I don't want him in an institution because before I knew who he was. Not this disease. I love him no matter.

I'm just starting to accept my situation...I hate labels and not ready to fully speak about it .but I understand now after over a decade what the doctors were talking about and how my family was perceiving me which at the time thought they were all out to get me. It's horrible and still in recovery as well. I have four children who are my life lines..

Not to introduce criticism but the mother really dominated the conversation and i wanted to see Jason speak more. He obviously is intelligent and coherent and his meds are working for him. He completely had the facilities to handle things

Thank y'all for sharing y'alls story, and bringing the struggles of schizophrenia to the forefront. I'm in a very scary place right now with having to seriously think about getting on disability. Don't know if I can...and don't have much of a support network. Really scared.

I'm on disability...it totally enabled my recovery. Message me and I can help you apply for disability. It's hard to figure out your meds when working full time. You don't know if it's the meds or stress from work :(

@@hardlyalone Hey Clint...thanks for reaching out! Really means a lot. I don't know how to message u, but by just replying on here... Basically, I'm having insomnia issues SERVERELY. It's one of the side effects of my schizoaffective med, and working a fluctuating night/day shift has just exacerbated it to the point where I can't sleep anymore. I have 10 years with the state, so I was hoping to get state disability as it has more advantages over SSI, like not having a savings limit. Do u know anything about getting state disability...? But any info or tips on getting SSI would be appreciated too.

But yeah, my meds cost a bunch too, but what choice do we have? I was planning on staying on disability for the rest of my life, and working part time somewhere more bearable to help with income.

She and her husband probably did this because they was nothing else they could think to do. As they say in the video his mother waited until it hit a crisis point. People do what they can do, the best option as they see it in the moment. And I don’t doubt the police thing not ending well I’m just saying hey she really probably didn’t jump the gun on that decision and put it off till probably the last minute or second.

I wish my family were more active in my life with schizophrenia...I take my meds everyday but I feel hurt and like a burden to my family... If I was to ask them what they know about schizophrenia they wouldn't have a clue...all they probably would say is the bad things that happened ....I work part time and support myself but it's a struggle...

My family doesn’t understand.

Hello everyone! my mom has Schizophrenia , she has had it for at 9 year now , me and my brother try so hard to tell are mom to get help but she just refuses it ! She has went to a doctor in her early stages and they diagnosed her with the illness , she didn’t take her medicine, she felt like they were tryna kill her! She thinks we are the enemies and she doesn’t think anything is wrong with her , she uses her beliefs as a Christian against us . For example she’ll say “If God want me to get help then I will , y’all (me and my brother) tryna force schizophrenia on me , y’all need to pray for yourselves, the world is coming to a end a devil is tryna attack the Christians “. Basically she is soo gone ! And she really think nothing is wrong with her and how she behaves and guys I would love to have my old mom back !! Please if anyone has any advice that could help me convince my mom to get help or if there is someone I can call that will force my mom to take her medicine so she can cope with life again and live ! As being the child of a parent who has schizophrenia it’s hard to put my foot down and force my mom , if the roles were change and If I was her mother and she was my dependent I could make my child get help but as being the child it’s soooo hard and she doesn’t believe us when we tell her that she has schizophrenia and she even tells me and my brother that she hears voices and she has almost every behavior of a schizophrenic person , please if anyone can relate to my situation and have any advice can you please email me jbolden5327@gmail.com I need my mom back 😓😓😓😖

First thing you need to do is go to your family doctor and ask for a referral or if they have any suggestions. Always start with your doctor as it is their job to know what resources are available to you.

Does Jason have a KZread channel? I really enjoyed listening to his experience.

My family would not provide this support. They threatened to phone police and lie that i was drunk driving and suicidal if i did not delete a post off facebook. I called their bluff ….they did not call police and lie but they told me i could not stay anymore.

My son is 19 suffering from this illness really bad!😢 he has been on everything nothing is working! I need help don’t want to put him away! Please crying out for help!😢😢😢😢

Wow my parents would never be this helpful

We just had to get our son evicted because of his anger within his mental health which he is still in denial to accept and agree to a stable treatment plan. I pray our son decides he needs help. N addition we have called police on him six times all to no avail -no help whatsoever. The facilities just send him back. I pray and wish this will be myself and son sometime. What a wonder team, parents to help son.
