    Great explanation. One recommendation: check what voltage your power station can accept. If possible, use a boost converter to 36 volt or 48 volt if acceptable for your power station. Also note that some power stations (my Ecoflow Delta 2) have different charging cables for solar vs. "12v" charging. The solar cable for my Ecoflow has a 3rd contact that indicates the ability to provide more current. If not using that special cable the charge rate will seldom if ever reach the maximum 500 watt.

    Thanks for the info - how sneaky of Ecoflow! - Just done some digging and it is XT60i connector that is required for Ecoflow Delta 2, with the "third" pin connected to -ve to trigger the higher current. Thanks for sharing.

    If applicable it'd be cheaper to just plug the 240v mains charger into your inverter whilst driving, if you don't have an inverter it's a good option, definitely better than the new ecofail 500 dollar option being touted by the many many shill channels on YT, so well done on not being one of those 👍

    This is an option, though I suspect it is unlikely many people that have chosen to use a Power Station with built in inverter will also have a separate inverter. There are also a few things to consider: -Your inverter is capable of the 1kw+ that the Power Bank will draw -Going from DC to AC and back to DC is inefficient, so less of the power you use will end up in the PowerBank. -The alternator / cabling etc is rated high enough for the draw from the inverter. (eg 1100w would be around 100 Amps draw from the Alternator)

    @@ExploreVanUK good points, fair doos 👍 especially the likelihood of having a power bank AND an inverter 👌

    Mike. So am I right that I just need an XT60 connector from the output side of the converter and connect to the solar input side of my Anker which can take upto 1000w? Do I just need fuse between the battery and the converter or on the output side of the converter too?

  • @ExploreVanUK

    @ExploreVanUK

    @@GedandMichele That looks to be the case - but looking at the specs for the Anker it shows the XT60 input is 11-32V⎓ 10A So you possibly won't get the full benefit of the 2O Amps the converter could supply. Personally I would fuse at the battery to protect the 40 Amps cables as far as the converter and again at the output of the convert to protect the 20 Amp cables, (to be honest not sure if that is necessary or not)

    Great video and explained well. I have the Aferiy P210 like you and looking to do the same set up. What wire did you use and what fuse rating for both sides of the converter would you recommend ? Many thanks

    Hi, I used 8 AWG cable - but depending on the length of your cable run you may want to go for higher current to prevent voltage loss. - There are lots of cable size calculators online. I fused at 50 Amps at the Starter Battery / Additional Battery and 30 Amps on the Converter outlet.

    Many thanks for you reply that’s good info. I’ll only have a short run so can probably use the 8AWG

    Followed instructions to the letter, purchased the exact item from Amazon, connected the converter to a brand new Lipo4 12volt battery and it started smoking and converter has failed. I’ve treble checked all connections to the converter and battery. 12v input + to positive battery terminal and 12v Input to negative terminal. 24v output + to Affery positive Anderson lead and 24v- to Affery negative Anderson connector. What am I missing or do I just have a broken converter? Help??

    Hi, off the top of my head I can't think of anything that would cause this if you have the connections, cables and fuse correct other than a faulty converter but lets start with the basics: Can you share the link to the actual converter you bought? Confirm the cable sizing and Fuses sizing you used? Which power station model are you using (our Afferiy uses XC90 connectors not Anderson connectors, so wonder what model you are using and the current draw it uses.) To try and diagnose, at what point did the converter start smoking? When connecting the input or when connecting the output? Can you describe where the smoke came from from? By any chance did you check the voltages with a multimeter?

    Yep it should be fine, giving approx 1190 Wh with 93% efficiency. (assuming you are looking to suppliment a Power station with the Fogstar - rather than charge the Fogstar)
