6 - 1/5 = 5 5/5-1/5 = 5 4/5 That's how I learned it. Discern the simplest way to attack a problem.
There is a method #3. 5 5/5 - 1/5 = 5 4/5. The 6 can be written as 5 wholes and 5/5.

OMG... 5 4/5 or 29/5 So eeeeeaaaaasssy. You don't need methods or tuition to do this. If you can't do it straight off in your head there is no hope for you!!

@ J Boi Logically that is what my mind naturally goes to also. I see the "-⅕", and i intuitively know that 1-⅕ = ⅘ From there i just discount that "1" i just "used" from the original "6" i was given: 6 - 1= 5 Then put that back together with the first calculation (1-⅕=⅘) .... 5 + ⅘ = 5⅘ This is all done mentally, in my minds imagination. The other methods this teacher presented are good for "proving" your calculation for anyone else to "see" it.
These videos are fun, a great refresher for me
Thank you my fellow teacher, T. Gon! You are a good help for those students who are struggling really hard in Math. With the method you are teaching us, you are making it easy for them and making them to appreciate and love Mathematics! ❤
I was learning "new math" from first through third grade. Then we moved. I walked into fourth grade and they were being taught division. I had no idea what they were doing and was too shy as the new kid to speak up. The teacher discussed this with my mother, but no one asked ME what the problem was. When I got to ninth grade they were teaching me algebra and I realized I already knew it. Sadly, it was too late and I had no desire to pay attention (I was more interested in the boys in my class by that time 🤣). I suck at math and now, even though showing me this, my brain clicks off and I can't/don't hear a word you are saying. I am 67 now and don't even want to try. Thank goodness for Google.
My first time to learn method 2. Thank you, Sir.
19/3 or 6-1/3 for drill 1 using both method.
Thank you for this great video.
I was a dumbass in high school but mostly cause i was lazy, but social studies and mathematics were the 2 things i always had 'A's and 'B's, I had learned method number 2, but method number 1 I had never seen before, seems a little extra complicated to learn, but, if it works, it works. Love this video

Social studies is not a proper subject.
Wow. This is so long and complicated. We learned to make the denomination for both the same then subtract. I would have never learned this method.
Is there a future benefit to learning these methods? A fraction is, by definition less than 1. One can be expressed as a numerator over a denominator where both are equal. A whole number will be reduced by one anytime a fraction is subtracted. So you reduce the whole number by one (6-1=5). 1=5/5. To subtract 5/5-1/5, you just subtract the numerator of the second fraction from the numerator of the first fraction (5-1=4) which gives you ⅘, so the answer is 5⅘. You can do this in your head quite easily. The denominator can be any number (49/49=1). As long as the numerator and denominator match, the value is ONE. 7-⅔ is 7-1=6 and 3/3-⅔ (3-2=1) so 6⅓.

Hello, how we get the lcd?
Thankyou sir really it helped me a lot can you please teach 2/5*4/7
6- 1/5. Take 5/5 from the 6 leaving 5 and 5/5. Now you have 5 and 5/5 -1/5 = 5 and 4/5 Simple.
I really don't remember how to do this stuff or is this the new math. However, I still figure out the answer without doing any one of the methods

These calculations were precisely my classmates failed Arithmetic when I was in secondary school between 1966 and 1971. Making calculations complicated shuts down the brain immediately. I think 95% of my class failed the GCE O Level Math exams.
Sir ganyan din Po ba pag addition need ko lang Po Ngayon Kasi may math quiz bee kmi bukas
Mr sir I am confused. Do you want me to add or subtract
Once you have the same denominator; you can add or subtract.
6 - 1/5 is 4.8 all day long
My answer for the given assignment is 6 1/3 . I used the method#2.
19/3 or 6 1/3 is my answer Thank you teacher Gon for your lessons

Got it 6 and 1/3
In method 1 where he get 29/5?
7/1-2/3 three 3÷1=3 and 3×7=21 next side 3÷3=1 1×2=2 so 21-2 3/3 21-2=19 and copy the three the answer is 19/3 and for the shortest 19÷3=6 may Isang Hindi nasama at icocopy monalng Yung baba so Ang sagot ay 6⅓ Ang lahat Ng sagot ay 19/3 and 6⅓
Solving fractions is more easy with vedic mathematics method . We can do mental calculations within 2 seconds tell the answer
6 1/3 = 19/3 method#1
Another way is to get 1 from 6 and rename it 5/5, 6 becomes a mixed number which is 5 5/5, so 5 5/5 - 1/5= 5 4/5
just put 1 as denominator of 6 and apply butterfly method, so easy
Seems like a lot of words to say that 6 = ³⁰\⁵ take ⅕ from it for ²⁹\⁵. I did this calculation in my head as the screen was loading.
there is a third method but i prefer method 2 to show proper format of maths writing
19/3 or 6 ⅓ is the answer because 3÷1 (7) = 21 and 3÷3 (2) = 2, 21-2/3 = 19/3 and to simplify this fraction we need to divide the numerator to denominator. The final answer is 6 ⅓
1/5 = 0,2. From there 6 - 0.2 = 5.8. End. Otherwise we make difficult what is easy.
tr gon pano po nakuha ung 4 sa 5 4/5
Thank you Sir...
19/3 or 6-1/3
6 1/3 po sir!
5.8
😮❤
❤❤❤❤ 0:14 😊
Thanks, " chingon"
6 1/3 tama po ba method #2
21/3 - 2/3 = 19/3 6 1/3
This nuts!
Well teacher, there was 6 of us, and when we were finished,we were minus a fifth of Jack Daniels
19/3 ,6 1/3
Yeah
This helps a lot! Thank you🙏 Subs done💗
5(1-1/5)= 5 4/5

Just one second!
I am 71 and learned 2nd method in school as easiest
I'm sorry but would you even need to write this down. I got the answer in about 4 seconds in my head. I know some of the calculations on here are much more complex but I would expect my 10 year old granddaughter to get this using just mentalist arithmetic.

i need to right it down because I am a tescher and i need to teacher.
6-1/5=29/5==5_4/5 7-2/3=19/3==6_1/3==5_4/3
My answer is 6 1/3
Isn't it just common sense that it would be 5 4/5 ?
Got the answer in seconds.

Sir what if yung fraction 23/56
Teaher how did to Last the number is 4 po paano po naging 4
6.1/3
18/3
7-2/3= 6 1/3
It equals more sober than 6 plus one fifth.
Or you don’t need any of that 5 4/5 + 1/5 = 6 also 1/5=.2 6-.2=5.8 which is equal to 5 4/5.
6 1/3
So equals 5
He makes it more complicated than necessary!! I hope to God he's not a math teacher!!
7/1-2/3=21-2=19/3
About 0.5 seconds in my head. This is Micky mouse arithmetic.
29/5
Answer is 6and 1third
7-2/3=19/3 or 6 1/3
5 4/5 is correct
Pano po kunf 1- 1/243

You are subtracting a fraction from a whole number. Why not add to the fraction to make a whole number, 1/5 + 4/5 = 5, so now you know that your fraction will be 4/5. Subtract 1 from your whole number, which is 5. Answer, 5 4/5. I did this in my head in seconds, it's not that complicated.
Then make the one into 5/5
1/5=.2 6-.2=5.8 aka 5 4/5
Both method are same
Still don't understand this 😂
Pourquoi faire simple ? Aire
