#singinglessons #singerincome #voicecoach
I'm Fiona Flyte and in this video we cover several aspects of how to be a vocal coach, voice teacher training and how to teach singing lessons. As far as I'm concerned, music educators have a sacred duty to uplift and inspire their students. Especially if you want to learn how to teach singing to beginners, how to teach singing to beginners 2019, I encourage you to make a commitment to lifting your students up. This way you'll not only learn how to make money as a classical singer, you'll learn how to be of service to the world, because our voices have the power to heal ourselves and each other.

Singers, we must diversify our income, so that we can be in charge of our livelihoods and not leave our financial well being up to chance and the whims of the music/theater industry gatekeepers. Yes, you love performing! So do I. I also love sharing what I've learned with others. Teaching voice is just one of many additional revenue streams you can explore! So in this video, we cover how to structure a singing lesson, if you're just getting started as a teacher!

Hi, my name is Tiziana and I am an Italian jazz singer and vocal coach. I listened to everything you said and I'm amazed why we do the same things, yet I don't know you❤️. The thing that makes me smile is that we have the same ways of doing things, even breaking the ice with questions, and then the same questions 😘 how is all this possible? Thanks for getting to know you

Hi Fiona, great video, very helpful. I have been giving singing lessons for a number of years and wonder if you have any advice for me to make improvements... I'm a self taught guitarist and singer/songwriter who has had only a few singing lessons some years back. I don't play piano. I usually start with some warm up exercises (using an mp3, getting them to use different sounds like mum, gee, neh, la, ooh to do the scales, as well as lip bubbles/trills) and then we dive in to a song and i give feedback on things like breathing, chest and head voice, working on specific notes that are pitchy etc. Is there anything else i should be doing? I have students starting who have had lessons previously with other tutors and concerned about their expectation moving over to me. Also it is only a 30 minute lesson so not sure i can fit it all in. It is for 2 sisters aged 8 to 12. Any advice welcome!

First, I would let go of the feeling that you have to be "better" than their other teacher AND that you have to fit everything into a 30 minute lesson! Instead focus on the accumulation of small wins over time. If it's a good fit, these sisters may continue with you for years. They won't learn everything you have to teach them in one 30 minute lesson, BUT that's 2 hours a month, 24 hours a year, etc! I believe that with children the primary focus of the lesson should be on the pure JOY of singing. Yes, technique and music learning matter, but helping them to love their voices and build confidence in themselves as people is even more important. Let me know if this was helpful. If you'd like to chat more, feel free to DM me over on Instagram or Facebook.

Fiona, I just got a job teaching at a private music school and I'm terrified. 😉 My piano skills are very weak. Yes, I can warm up my students and play a melody lines but that's about it. Most of their students are young. Some as young as 7. I've never taught anyone that young and I'm worried about rep. What if someone comes in and wants to learn Taylor swift or done my piece that I'm not familiar with. Is be happy to teach them all early art songs but I know that's not realistic. Any thoughts?

#1 7 year olds just want to play and have fun. They are NOT there to judge you and have NO idea what good piano playing should sound like. This means your job is to relax and have fun too. #2 When I taught voice to children, I saw my job as fostering a LOVE of music. I personally believe this is MORE important than learning pitch, sight-reading, etc. #3 That said, rhythm games can be a GREAT tool when working with kids. Things like sitting in a circle and passing a ball to the beat of the music. #4 Feel free to sing along! You can keep them going more with your own voice than with the piano. #5 Do choose some contemporary songs. Teach the melody with piano and your voice and then sing full out with a track! - Problem solved. Yes? #6 Part of the fun of singing is getting to sing what you really want to sing, right? So, if anyone brings in a song you don't know, take it home and listen to it. Get the track. (Maybe the sheet music if available.) And then have fun with them learning to sing it together. #7 Congratulations on your new job!!!

It does cover the general structure for a private lesson, starting with entering the lesson through warm up, song and payment. As well as the slight difference at the beginning for a first lesson. Would you like a video that goes into greater depth about the structure? What questions would you most want answered?
