You've got the demeanor of being very likely the most unpretentious, and informed, electrician I've ever seen. You'd have to be the most informed down to earth electrical channels on yt. Really appreciate your videos bud. God bless you and your family

I watched this a while ago and didn't realize the significance. Was out installing a GFCI to UF last night and I then realized how this is important. Thanks man! I'll totally use this method for the rest of my project.

Nice simple video. Can 10/2+G UF-B be used in half inch Liquidtight conduit above ground on a wall to run a 30 amp Heat-pump? Thanks.
@luckyhiker3434
2 жыл бұрын
The code requires all NM wires to be protected if subject to potential damage. Liquid tight will not fly with inspector. I assume you are burring the UF but where it emerges from the ground it will need to be protected. Sounds like a hassle but if you use ridge metallic conduit you only need to be 6” deep.

Does the UF-B wire have to be buried in conduit or can it be buried by itself. Thanks
@heirloomhamlet
4 жыл бұрын
It can be buried directly into the earth, usually 24 inches or more. That's what makes it UF-B. Any wire can be put in conduit and buried.
@herrelektrika5490

Yeah it is direct burial, but the most proper way is with pvc conduit using thhn. You can put UF in conduit but it is a real pain to pull through depending on how far the run is, so if you are able use a little larger pvc size to avoid using pull boxes if it is far. Use sch40 pvc underground and if the conduit is exposed above ground use sch80 pvc(thicker and stronger, less likely to be damaged).

@@herrelektrika5490 Actually your answer is incorrect. It is AGAINST CODE to put UF cable in conduit (lengths longer than 10')!!! It can create a heat issue using ANY cable "assy", as the insulation factor of the insulation can create a heat issue, and then with the cable inside an enclosed conduit, the problem is increased. Check your codes dude!!!! Conduit is for SINGLE WIRES, and should otherwise only be used where the cable enters or exits the ground and goes into a box. Per code, the conduit should go down 18" into the ground to protect the cable. Otherwise, conduit is a NO-NO for cables!!!

@@BenDover4Mee yeah, I should have specified last year when I made the comment that it is legal or not, depending on how far it is. You will notice though I did say the proper way(code compliant) is to use thhn in the conduit (single wires). I'm well aware of conduit needing to be buried 18 inches down, but did not see a need to tell this person about it in this case. In every case, it's always better to dig 20"-25" down, just a good policy to follow, and by doing that you might avoid pita inspectors, and you will always know that you are deep enough. Might be a good idea to add site pipes to the trench also if you backfill. I appreciate you reaching out to reply to my comment though 👍
