My thought exactly😂
I'm hooked on this dude now. It's funny how you have a problem with a dog and you think it will last it's entire life and this dude fixes it in five minutes.
It all looks so simple. I don't have a dog myself but I visit people in their homes to help them with their recovery after a hospital stay or an illness. Some of them have dogs. So - thanks to Cesar - I know not to pay them any attention until they are calm. And then I reward them with affection on my terms. Very grateful as some dogs were a problem to me but not anymore.

If you enjoy & understand what you see, but don't have your own dog, you might consider boarding dogs in your home (overnight on a weekend, or "daycare" when you're home. Rover, for example. That could be a good way to experience what you learn without a long-term commitment. I know people who have done that. They like dogs, but didn't want to own one at the time.).

Cesar is by far the dog whisperer who uses the least amount of sheer forces succeeding in transforming the dog and human to their better version of themselves. Cesar is such a rare gem, I always learn so much just by watching his teachings. I always develop fear when I was watching other dog Trainers, either they made the dogs looks really brutal and scary or their methods no matter how gently they tried, there were struggles/frustrations. Cesar is just so one of his kind, so special so gentle, so natural with care and compassion. I really admire and respect Cesar from the bottom of my heart

Thank you for what you said about blind dogs being able to learn as well as seeing dogs. I've been searching for months for a trainer with experience to help me teach my blind dog the basics for safety. I've been told by trainers that there's not much you can do for a blind dog, which is absolutely infuriating.

yeah dogs “see” the world through smell in the way we see the world through sight. their olfactory system is their most important sense for them when processing their surroundings (and frankly anything else they do lol scent > sight). if we’re being honest, trainers that believe blind dogs are disabled in a way that is similar to the challenges faced by blind humans says more about their proficiency on dogs leading me to believe you dodged a bullet every time a trainer turned down your willingness to pay for their clearly, undeserved expertise on dogs.

And you actually use all the gifts God gave you to improve the lifes of tens of millions of people and dogs. I adopted a 8 month old French Bulldog as my first dog. I thought she was super dominant and agressive and tried for many months, maybe even 2 years to correct her bad behaviour. I failed. But your shows tought me she was not dominant and agressive, she was nervous and anxious. The fact I was struggeling with mental health problems only made it worse. I thought I could hide it from her, but dogs are sensitive and intelligent. It is easier to hide psychological problems to humans than dogs haha. Now she is a 12 year old sweetheart that is not even agressive towards cats anymore!! Thank you Cesar!
you are such a legend cesar.!!! every dog owner should be like you.!

My son has a 3-year-old crazy coonhound mix rescue. He spent thousands of dollars on a trainer that took the dog and then returned it and would make house calls periodically to see the progress of the training. Personally I don't see any difference. As soon as the doorbell rings or even if you just enter into the house the dog is all over you. The dog has a leash on constantly in case someone comes to the house he can pull the dog and control it with the pronged collar yikes. His biggest mistake was not training the dog as a puppy when he first got it. I want to share with him some of your easy training videos and Hope it helps the dog. PS I've been following you for probably as long and as far back as you walking the dogs on the streets without leashes and your straw hat on LOL

Hello! I would like to see how to stop your fear of dogs, as an adult never having a dog (the main reason: fear). You have been in Romania, there a a lot of street dogs outside and a lot of persons who let their own big dogs without any leash, without watching them.

That's called cynophobia. Dog Whisperer season 4, episode 25 is about that. The man (Ernesto) in that episode appears in season 8, episode 6 to help a pool-service man who is afraid of dogs (and often encounters them in his work). Episode 6 has two shows, and I believe the other show also involves fear of dogs.

Cesar, do you think these principles translate well into parenting children with aggressive/spirited/determined personalities and if so, how? Your statement about the dog with the hose reminded me so much of my 10 year old son who gets fixated on something and then will not get away from pursuing it. We do not relent, but it is then an all day argument from him that goes into the next day.
@markfuller
2 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting topic. There's a couple of dog-training styles. One is more like Cesar's in which not everything is a choice. You should be able to assert a boundary to your dog, not just wave treats and hope someday it chooses the way you want it to. I think many parents would benefit from being more like this with their children. (Instead of free-range parenting.). The other style of training is based upon Skinner's behavioralism, 4-quadrant, more choice based "behaviors that are ignored will extinguish. Behaviors that are reward will occur more frequently." You could read Karen Pryor's book "Don't shoot the dog" to learn more about that. I was involved in this method for over a decade, and it's not as good in practice as it sounds on paper. I think it's a balance between the two. Assertiveness and behaviorism together works well. Not everything's a choice. But, it's good to gain leadership as a choice. But, ultimately dogs aren't humans. Humans have egos. We have an inner narrative we constantly tell ourselves. We live in the past and future which creates "the specious moment" (as an educator called it 100 years ago). Dogs are more in the moment. They can be conditioned to react badly to things in the moment. But, they don't really have the ego we have, and cultivate ego-satisfying stories about themselves the way we do. So, I'd be careful translating too much about dog training into people training. It's a different mind.
Brillant Caesar
We have a young 13 week Catahoula puppy. He is very loving, however he is already showing his hunting instincts and intelligence. We live on a life style property here in New Zealand, so we have plenty of space to exercise him and tire him out. We have puppy biting and jumping up issues. My question is, (as many have asked) what type of collar/leach do you use? You don’t explain. Is it a slip collar??
All you got to do w any dog is go “Sshht, Sshtt!” 🤣

I think it's interesting how all the SPCA, Humane Society, shelters, etc. aren't hammering Craigslist where backyard breeders sell puppies like mad. In 2005, the San Fran. Chronicle did a story about how CL was negatively impacting area shelters. As a result, CL implemented a policy against selling puppies. But, if you look, the policy isn't enforced at all. CL treats flagging as abuse, and lets the policy be violated 99% of the time. I have a theory that these orgs thrive on crisis, need overpopulation for their orgs to be more relevant (to the media, etc.).
Hi Ceasar, I would like to know what kind of liver treats you feed your pack and what kind of diet are the on ? I hope this message finds you in good health and in good spirits 🙏 God Bless
What's up with the leash he is using? How does this affect the dog differently than a regular dog leash?
@markfuller
2 жыл бұрын
It's called a slip lead. A regular leash clips onto a buckle collar, which tends to rest lower on the neck. Slip leads have a little slider/tensioner thing which lets you snug it against the neck so the loop won't open. That can help it hold it's position higher on the neck, behind the ears. The idea is: control the head, control the animal. If the collar is low, that encourages pulling like a harness. It can also irritate the trachea causing coughing. Some dogs are more sensitive than others. It's the same principle as a "choke chain" or martingale collar. It tights around the neck when pulled, instead of just the front of the neck bearing against the collar. Where people go wrong with slip leads is that they wait too long for the dog to get out in front. We tend to think they'll realize the err of their ways, and come back. They don't. So, then you start pulling, and now you're pulling back on the loop around the neck which can send it lower down the neck. The trick to slip leads is to not wait. Pull up as the dog starts to cross in front. That helps keep it high on the neck, and is a clearer message than waiting until it's 2' in front. Even better control can be had with a Gentle Leader head harness. But, people don't seem to know how to use that. It can be tricky if a dog is truly dominant and ignoring you. (The more dominant they are on the walk, the more they'll protest when they realize the control they lost. That can be a challenge to get through that. People tend to throw one on, then say "my dog didn't like it." There's much more of an art to it than a collar or sliplead. If you wanted to try one, reply here and I can give you more insight into that.

@@markfuller interesting. Thanks for that :) I have a 6 month old french mastiff/american bulldog mix and ive been having issues getting him to walk nicely.
@markfuller
2 жыл бұрын
@@WORSAW666 BTW: the GL head harness I mentioned may not be suitable for a bulldog. Dogs with short snouts don't work as well. So, depending on how much mastiff is there, and how "normal" the snout length is, it could be a good tool. Search youtube for "Petsafe Gentle Leader instruction video." They include that video on dvd (or used to). It's a start. But, I don't think Petsafe emphasizes taking time to make it positive and fun (and especially don't mention the way a dog can react badly when they realize the control they've lost). If you decide to try one, reply saying so and I can give more info about what I think is important. I usually just use the GL to teach a dog to walk nicely next to me (if it's really hard to teach). Then I go to a slip lead. Sometimes dogs will know the difference (what it's wearing). So, sometimes I'll walk a dog wearing the GL, but not connected to anything (using the slip lead for actual control). That can help transition away from the GL.
