    Jane Doe, Only if thought rumination affects your internal health you need to visit a psychologist. Heal yourself. Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts-anxiety-stress. For a relaxed life sit on a chair, back erect, hands on lap with palms upwards, eyes closed, be still and observe your natural incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 10-15 minutes. Be as still as possible. Many thoughts will come which is ok--slowly negative thoughts will reduce and your mind will relax. During your daily activity keep observing your breath consciously. Best part is mood swings also reduce. Do the above meditation daily to feel relaxed. For more healing enter the following on google search and listen before sleep repeating the affirmations for 10 minutes in your mind. -“52Hz affirmations for health and healing you tube”. One thing I’ve learned about overthinking/ worrying this past 8 years is the exact same outcome occurs regardless of if you worried about it all month or smiled & laughed about it all month. Literally nothing good can come from it. Only 100% of negativity. Where if you don’t think about it or do only occasionally or in a positive way it’s still going to be the exact same result. End of the day. Worrying is like walking around with an umbrella open in your hand every single day waiting for it to rain. But it might not rain for the next 4 months. Let go. Be prepared. Keep it in your bag in case it does rain but that’s all. So morale of the story.. if it rains get the umbrella out. But if it’s sunny no sign of rain keep it away until it is needed. & know you will always have it. Because we all worry , it’s ok to worry occasionally or when something terrible happens. It’s human nature it’s fight or flight. Don’t ever expect to never worry. Just know there’s a time & a place for it. I Hope this helps if anyone decides to read it. 💙

  • @Anarky

    @Anarky

    5 жыл бұрын

    We kinda do have 2 brains. They are connected but still separate and honestly I think they are always fighting! One is logical while the other is thoughtful so you have to adjust your paranoias and your logical thinking to the same frequency in a way. It's not easy but I think it can be achieved. Russel would say you can through meditation. But it's impossible for me to ever think about nothing!

  • @schimmilol8580

    Anarky I think you look at it from the wrong perspective. Meditation isn‘t about not thinking anything. Its about observing. Let all thoughts that arise exist and dont judge them, just observe them from a distance. If you catch yourself following a thought, try to take a step back and go back to observing. Dont try to make them go away, accept them but dont engage them and dont judge them. It takes a lot of practice, but all the effort is worth it.

    It’s bullshit bro, science has shown that thoughts randomly pop off in your head, it’s how you react to them that matters, millions of people have obsessive violent thoughts yet they do nothing because it’s not their thought they just feel as though it is and can’t concentrate on anything and it’s because of that reaction, it’s a pattern for your brain to react right away without assessing the thought(which is totally random, letting thoughts dictate your life is the same as going out and looking at the clouds and letting a cloud dictate you life) your thoughts are not yours, they are inherently meaningless until we entertain them by labeling “fear” or “good” or “depressive”, that’s all the reaction to the initial Thought that randomly popped up in your brain, good and bad thoughts come from the same random pop off but we label some good and some bad and then react accordingly to those initial assumptions or judgements of the thought, but really it’s just a thought, a random thought that isn’t yours, as meaningful to your behavior as clouds in the sky should be.

    @Jack, what you repeatedly think about manifests in your reality. The people who go in the world to do horrible things have most-likely spent a great deal of time thinking of these things. those thoughts created emotion, those emotions created an intention and those intentions led to actions. The same goes for those who do good in the world. It’s simple.

    Great stuff Russell! I recently went through a bout of obsessive overthinking which wouldn't stop even with meditation - and I've been meditating since I was 12. This is the power of the ego. I came to realize that my ego was having a heyday. There was no solution to my anxiety and no answer to my worries as long as I stayed in the realm of my ego. My anger, resentment, feeling misunderstood etc. was all rooted in its compensating for feeling bruised - less than, not good enough. I realized I had to let go and the only way I could was to GIVE IT UP - to ask for divine intervention, a miracle if you will - surrender to the greater intelligence or whatever you like to call it. After weeks of this mental self torture, it worked! My ego had no idea how to deal with a higher power - not its department - so it went away. So next time I find myself in the obsessive thinking loop I will simply hand it over, ask for a miracle and send my ego packing. Of course it'll come back, trickier than ever, but next time hopefully I'll see it coming.

It really gives me light at the end of the never ending tunnel

    I would like to share something here. This is similar to the concept of "Void" meditation. Where one can empty the mind of all thought. One of the preparatory exercises in achieving this very difficult feat is shifting awareness. Shift thinking from multiple thoughts to a more singular direction, one that allows focus. For example,when thinking a thought, hold it, rather than it hold you. Look at it from different angles. It remains the one thought, just from multiple angles. And then when practiced enough, productive angles. The notion of feeling ones hand, or focusing on ones breath,or a smell,or a sensation produced by the 5 senses, is also a good way to disengage from the wrong path that unchecked thoughts can take us down. Which is another aspect of "Void" meditation. I hope this was elaborated in a way that is helpful to some.

    I feel like growing up I thought I was normal just like my friends but I was the shy one of the group. The reason I was the shy one of the group was because I was constantly overthinking every situation even as simply as answering my name in the register of class. “I’ve heard people say here oh yeah I’ll say here so I don’t sound weird” I learned to accept this way of life and live with it. It was only when I was 17 at college where I felt the differences I persuaded myself I was the worst in the class I know nothing compared to my fellow learners and I’m dum. It was one of the worst parts of my life when the teacher picked me in the class to answer a simple question of how many mm are in 1m infront of everyone. I know the answer was simple and under no pressure I could of answered it but then I said I don’t k ow because my brain was so worried it couldn’t think of the answer. Once I said I don’t know the kids in the class laughed and the teacher said how can you not know that at this level. Then I truly belived I was less than everyone in the room but in reality I was equal. After then I distanced myself from my friends, at lunch I sat in the toilet until the next class because I didn’t want to be judged. I couldn’t dare to eat infront of anyone Incase they seen I wasn’t eating right or chewed too loud. My condition worsened and I hated coming to college because of feeling how I felt I was so alone. Nobody else was like me so what is wrong with me? The final straw was when I was failing my classes behind on work and I couldn’t take the pressure. I had a panick attack and had tunnel vision I walked out of class couldn’t see a thing and my body took over myself for a strange amount of time I walked away from the college out of my mind and sat down in a shop I was sat there for a long time not being in a conscious state and my college rang my mum saying Liam is missing she rang me and I told her where I was. She took me home and sat me down and I broke down for the first time after holding it all in saying I hate it I hate it so much I can’t stand it I broke down and told her the truth. I had failed at life and had to quit college. My mum took me to a doctor where she told her of my symptoms and she said I have anxiety. I later found out it’s excessive anxiety disorder. I was given fluoxetine. Through this drug it gave me the confidence and subsided my thoughts, not fully but definitely weekend my disorder. I grew into a stronger person and eventually through hard work my boss put me through an apprenticeship that put me back on the same course and I smashed it. What I’m saying is there are methods to overcome your anxiety disorder and you need to fight and not judge yourself so much because you are great. Now I’m 2 years into using the drug and I feel like I can conquer past obstacles like having a conversation with a stranger which I couldn’t do before. Do no let your thoughts overcome your goals I was my own worst enemy and I wish I could go back with what I know now and tell myself be strong it’s all in your head but it was a massive stepping stone to developing as a person and becoming the man I want to be.

    Hey! I'm so happy about your progress. In high school I had some similar thoughts. I was always judged by my classmates, because of my looks and the way I responded to different situations. I became super shy, didnt want to speak to anyone when we had breaks from the classes. I had anxiety and even after I finished school I couldnt speak properly to strangers. I hated myself for being that way, I used to think why cant you be normal. After several years, finally starting meditation I can observe my thoughts and understand that It's not me who's speaking. Love yourself for being you. You are more than enough, we are all children of the cosmos 💫❤️ Best wishes!

    Just realised this for myself the other day, that having a step back from your thoughts and trying to return to the moment, Instead of what may or may not happen, is very possible to do and once you learn it for the first time, and you know what just happened, it becomes a very powerful tool in everyday life when those feelings of anxiety begin to come up. I'm in the middle of Russell's book, mentors, cost be about 7 quid on audible, well worth listening to / reading. Doesn't matter how far you are along your life journey, or how 'successful or unsuccessful' you feel you are, there are always always people out there that can teach you something new. Its important to humble yourself and accept help from others, no one has the answer for everything. Russell's been on a spiritual journey for a very long time compared to me and to hear about him continually seeking to grow gives me the kick up the arse I need when I get frustrated that I don't 'have it all worked out'. I've been doing this lately - returning to Awareness on and of my body. I've been returning to Vipassana meditation which trains you to focus initially just on the sensation of your breath against your upper lip when you inhale and exhale. It frustrated me mad for years until just recently as I've now become desperate because anxious, worried overthinking has started to really take over my life, in a sense, and I don't like it. I'm trying to retrain my mind that the whole "point" and eventual success of meditation is that exact moment of seeing yourself overthinking and returning to sensation/Awareness. Already, just after a few days, I'm feeling results - I feel like my capacity for appreciating the moment, whether it's the sound of the breeze rushing through the trees or watching a dove sitting on a branch, has already vastly increased. Thanks again so much for providing trustworthy videos and content

    Thank you so much. I've known of you through your comedic career & the public honesty you've shared about your life. It was this frame of reference that I chose to click on this video as this is something I live with regularly. Some additional stress has entered my life recently causing a bit of an increase in this "endless helix of thinking" that is really messing me up. Thank you for that beautiful phrase & for understanding. And for taking the time to make these videos for nobodies like me. This is the first time all day I've stopped crying. Your tone is soothing. Your accent makes me concentrate on what you are saying. (That's not a dig, I'm American, so I have to listen extra hard & I'm saying I'm grateful for that because it shuts up my inner critic for a minute so I can take in the help I've sought out.) I just really appreciate that you are doing this. It is making a positive difference in at least this person's life & I thought your inner critic need to know that. I wish for you the very best life has to offer. ✌❤😊

    Hi Russell Just wanted to share that I have watched two of your videos and in both of them you have said something that has been so helpful to me I can tell it will be transformative (both times it was just one sentence) so thank you for that. Louise x
