I was a person who beat to my own drum . People had their kids young I waited 10 years on purpose. I have always been a late bloomer and don't care . Free spirit .

Me too :) overtime the internal pressure Barbara describes has built up. I think this is largely due to my consumption of social media and general cultural trends. Any advice, free spirit friend? Haha

This is very helpful when coming from families who are very judgmental and critical and have no concept of this sympathetic joy. I see it as the possibility of living vicariously through others! Due to ill health we are sidelined from much, but we encourage our children to get out and live. Its certainly easier to rejoice in children, puppies etc became we dont get any judgment from them or pressure to measure up. Their joys do not threaten our sense of achievement or sense of missing out. So there's an area i can expand on, the peers who have what we dont have... exercise myself to share their joy more..Thank you❤!

I am just starting to connect with the content of your videos, and I find your advice to be very enlightening. I truly appreciate how you explain and give examples. The previous video you made was extremely helpful to me. The term "comparisonitis" is now going to be part of my vocabulary, especially in my internal conversations!

I wish my parents would have been a bit less controlling on what a good life path is. They said they wanted me to be happy, but they would be extremely critical when I went of the path they took. I went to college, I got married to someone they approved off by age 20. But at 41 I got divorced and we didn't have kids. I decided to move and date and live with people instead of marriage again. That caused the criticism and now I am a floosie and on the wrong path in my mom's eyes. But I am happy and live like I am on vacation all the time and she is down on it anyway. I have been going against the grain with family that all are down on my later life choices. These videos help me a lot now that at 50 I am trying to shed all the fleas from my upbringing. I am happy with my life even with all the mistakes I made. I am happy despite the family. Now sympathetic joy I feel for people. I do feel jealous at times, but I also recognize they deserve the happiness they feel and they did the work to achieve those goals. They may also have some lucky 🍀.. but I am happy when others are happy and wish my family felt that way too.

This is great! We all do this to ourselves at some point. I stressed so much at one point thinking I didn't do enough of what I wanted to do by a certain point. Let's not let the world/culture dictate how and when we do things. God will lead us to what is best if we seek Him.

Thank you. I am 41 years old. I work as IT professional for a company for more than 16 years since graduted university. I mostly work from home, 99%. The office is 3 hours away. For Visa reason i can’t change company until end 2025. I have been suffering of social anxiety. Im very knowledgable with my work, but struggling when i have to interact with people via phone / face to face(at work / people in general). My career progress is slow. With many years of experiences, i should have been promoted to be a manager to lead a team. Possibly my boss dont see my potential to lead people. The older I am, i feel left behind than other colleagues with similar years of experiences. I feel worthless, hopeless and feel like a loser. However I think, despite i have a goal, I should just enjoy the process, do the best and be positive, instead of focusing on comparing my self with other people.
