More hay, less grain, more turnout are my first go to's for any training/ behavior problem. So many issues are caused by our artificial style of management. I'm so glad you mentioned it.

A lot of this gets started because people pull on their horse. They pull on their horse because the horse isn't started in the halter properly.

He’s an unschooled stud, that should have been taught this cursory lesson as a weakling or yearling. Good recovery, but stallions should never be owned by people who have no clue how to train or handle them. That’s the best sage advise that can given.

The best approach would be letting the horse know there's no need to be defensive. I like what you say, and the care changes are helpful. But the last thing this horse needs is to be handled by discomfort. This will quickly turn into aggression. His body language is defensive, and you're only giving him a reason to be defensive when you act aggressively towards it

How would you suggest making him less defensive? Genuinely curious.

@@katvloom6542 By giving the horse no reason to be defensive. Respecting the horses space and body language, and allowing him to say no and express his discomfort. This horse shows so many signs of anxiety and discomfort. By handling a horse this way you're only showing him that you're untrustworthy, unpredictable, and you're not willing to listen to what he's saying. Working with the root of the problem which is anxiety, fear, and confusion by showing him what you do want and making positive associations with yourself so the horse finds comfort in you and trust. If he pins his ears, stepping away. Build understanding first. Then showing the horse what it is you want exactly and rewarding him for it. Using positive reinforcement, not pressure. Pressure is why this horse is in this situation to begin with. He's being handled with more pressure and aggression and ignorance is what makes horses escalate from saying "I don't like this" to defensive threatening behaviors.

@TotorBoat yeah this behavior is not something you ignore. PLEASE no one take this advice. Get help from a professional, these are massive animals that can kill you. If your horse says no to a request of backing up or moving over by rearing and or striking out. Get professional help. Ignoring it or backing off will only teach the animal that it is a beneficial behavior to repeat when they don't want to do something. This is how negative reinforcement works in operant conditioning. Generally, these learned behaviors don't disappear, they will be used the moment the horse has an issue with a request making him dangerous on the ground.

Out of fear, I'd say just do more desensitizing, if it ends up being more than just scary objects and flightiness, then do this..

Jezus, that woman... Pink halter, chain, chain in mouth, horseshoes, hand right under the jaw, death grip on it... (edit: F#CKING HECK, she even placed the chain BEHIND the horse's ears?! Omfg...) The guy did a great job in my opinion! That woman is 100% the problem in this situation.

@@elizahansen7098 pink typically means women who only care about pretty things. The stud chain.. its metal, metal is pain (ESPECIALLY when it's in a horse's mouth). Even if it's not behind the horse's ears, it's still banging on it's teeth, face, etc.

@@elizahansen7098 Pink halters means a freakin' female is involved who thinks of a stud horse as a cute little Yorkie-Poo she wuvs. Pink halters are a clue there's a woman in the mix who doesn't know what she's doing with a horse - and the fact the horse is featured in a video as a problem horse shows that's the case.

@@riannekuilder7374 I’m sorry, all do respect but when a metal is in the horses mouth it is called a bit. If they are being riden the bit is what will use to apply pressure to the horse mouth to tell where the horse where it is supposed to go. If the bit is being used wrongly and it is obvious, you would’ve seen the teeth more short and the horse would probably be nodding.
