how to steam/froth milk with breville barista express | a beginner's guide
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
hi guys,
this video is mainly intended for beginners like me who just got their barista express machine. disclaimer, this is not a latte art tutorial. this is just me sharing what method i used to learn steaming/frothing at home.
sure there's a lot of tutorial videos out there that you can find, i also watched almost all of them. but one thing i noticed is that, they always say "introduce air until you start to FEEL the pitcher getting warm"... how do i know that? i mean i can't feel the pitcher by just watching the video, right? so i figured i need to have a visual parameter, and for me it's the TIME (watch the video so you'll understand).
i'm not saying that this is the absolute guide. what i'm hoping is that through this video, i can somehow help you figure out how to steam/froth and start from there. 😌
hope this one helps!
happy pouring!

This is exactly what I needed…most videos show steaming on professional boilers with instant on and full steam…which create microfoam in about 5 seconds…this is so much more realistic to the way I brew at home on my Breville. The timer was the key…thank you thank you thank you.
Best steaming tutorial out there, by a wide margin... I probably watched a dozen or so. Bravo!! Seems you have that nice gift of understanding what people know / understand and what they don't know / don't understand.
This is a very well done video. Thank you for showing the positioning using the glass and sound. This is a very useful video!!! Bravo.

Thank you! This was one of the most helpful videos I’ve found on how to steam milk. The 15-20-25 sec comparisons were so informative for diagnosing what I’m doing wrong right now. Can’t wait to try out a new method in the morning!

OK, this is the real deal, I used this persons instructions and I got the right milk texture for my oat milk. Best latte art milk tutorial there is. Thank you!

For Sage Barista Express owners still struggling: The first bit where you add the air and increase the volume of the milk is incredibly important. If you don't do enough of this you won't get anywhere and it won't matter what you do afterwards. I've been doing this with Oatly oat milk, and I have to do the first bit of adding air for a good 40-45 seconds MINIMUM. I can then start to see the volume of the milk increase by around 10-20%. That's when I know I've added enough air, and I can move to the next bit and lower the wand to create the vortex until it comes to the right temperature. Play around with the first stage and see how long you need to do it for, might take a few tries and you might go through a few cartons of milk before you get the hang of it! If you're finding that your milk is always too thin at the end, this is probably your issue. I hope this helps someone out there, as it was driving me mad!

its vortex then air then get to temp not air then vortex then temp
Thank you so much for making this video, it’s the clearest out of many that I’ve watched and has helped me so much! I’m definitely the sort of person who needs numbers rather than going purely by sound/instinct 😂
this is the most perfect video I have seen on KZread, I've been using this machine for 3 months, and sometimes I end up with liquid textures and sometimes latte textures, all by random. I thought my machine is broken down or something wrong with the wand or steaming pressure. thank you for detailing this issue, really appreciate your video.
I can’t believe. I finally found a video actually teach how to make foam for latte at home. I tried it and It really works.

Nice one! 😁
This is EXACTLY what I needed to see. Just got this exact machine (upgraded from a cheap one that would foam milk easily) and couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. Thank you so much!!
Best video abt correct way to froth milk for latte art. I have seen plenty and this one is simple and informative. Showing it thru clear glass is brilliant. Plus giving us different results by frothing it thru different times is very helpful in what kind of milk we want to have.
Not only is this the best tutorial I've found, it's so soothing. I didn't know frothed milk could be so zen.
Oh my gosh thank you!! I’ve had my machine since December and Ive finally frothed my milk correctly to do latte art! It was just a blob today but I’m so excited 😊
We just got this machine set up today and your videos helped so much! Our coffee came out perfect after watching them😊
Thank you, after watching quite a few videos on this topic, yours is easily the best explanation on frothing.
I have been watching loads of milk steaming video not by far this one is the best it uses the same machine that I have. This is so underrated thank you for this priceless video!
Just got this machine a couple weeks ago and my frothing game has been weak. This video is EXTREMELY helpful, thank you!
I learned a lot here. I thought we needed to stop adding air at a certain temp. Makes sense that we can control the texture of the milk with the amount of time we incorporate the air. Of course it also depends on how much milk you start with. This is very helpful, thank you!
Your video WAS AMAZING it helped me SO much! After watching so many videos yours was JUST WHAT I NEEDED to steam the perfect cup of milk for my espresso. THANK YOU!!! ☕️✨☕️
Just got this machine and this is the video i was looking for....thanks a millions!!
You've helped me understand that home machines need more time to stretch the milk! I was stuck with hot, thin milk with froth just on top no matter how many tutorials I watched. Thank you for showing all of this in real time!
Thanks so much for this high quality video. Easy to understand, particularly liked the numbers rather than "going off the vibe" - super helpful.
I just got my breville barista express and have practically made every mistake imaginable. I've also watched almost every video on the topics, and I agree you can't learn an to "feel" how to froth (or at least i can't). I'm getting better, but this gives me a SOLID way to measure my approach. I wish I would have viewed your video way sooner. Thanks!

How did it come out?
This has surely got to be the best tutorial for frothing milk with this machine. I have had 0 success yet at doing any half decent latte art with this coffe maker having watched countless videos, most using frother capabilities much better then sage/breville's. The distinct/longer air introducing phase makes sense for this weaker frother. Thank you!

Thank you for this. I've been struggling with my frothing, and as you've said, with other people's clips I've watched, they haven't been clear at all. Here I go 🤞😁
Thanks for this! I’ve basically just been heating the milk without any foam but now I know what I’m doing wrong 👍
You have no idea how excited I was to see this video! Using the glass to show the wand positioning was super helpful. I have watched many other videos on how to do this and this one has helped me the most ! I’ve had my Breville for a year and I still can’t froth milk and my shots of espresso are not that good either. I can’t wait to see your other vids. Thanks a lot!
Kat, your video is amazing!!! Thank you so much. I was struggling a lot! My machine (Sage barista) used to scream at me 😅 but simple moves in your video helped me to achieve foam using almond milk 🥛🤎🤎🤎

Thank you so much!! Was struggling to actually texture my milk, and was just ending up with heated flat milk. Now I’m starting to get cafe style results (no where near as good yet but on the right track)

Watched your video and attempted on the first try, it came out perfect. Great tutorial!
Tqvm for such a detail video. I’m failed to make a form milk. Try for so many times. Then I discover ur video. It’s really help me alot. Tq
*Update* Tried it 3 times today and it didn't work. Thank you so much! I’ve watched a couple of videos and learned the technique (tip of the wand in, wait for jug to warm, lift the jug up) but I’d always mess up! It wasn’t any clear direction and I’d hope for the best. I love that you’ve shown it with a clear glass cup and that you’ve shown what a cappuccino looks like and why you would create watery milk. I like that you’ve shown the moment when air when getting in because I never knew. I’m trying this tomorrow and fingers crossed I get it right! I’ll update you! Thank you
Thank you! This is exactly what I needed to troubleshoot my steaming issues on the breville.
That’s the only one tutorial one youtube that finally explains how to get nice milk for latte art, time, aeration...Finally got good results after watching this tutorial and no more wasting milk. Thank you

Best breville barista video!! Thank you!!!
really good milk steaming tips!! just got myself a be870 and im excited to try it out :)
My experience for home machine (weak steamer) like this is about 20 seconds of stretching (paper tearing sound). Start counting after about 5 seconds of starting so the steam power is at its maximum and the milk has a slight whirlpool. Or just simply feel the milk started to be warm, then raise the jug until the right temperature. That is the sweet spot for latte art pouring.
