How to Stay Motivated through Injuries (My 3 Favorite Quotes)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Going through injuries SUCKS! The biggest injury I’ve had to overcome was when I tore the ligaments in my ankle while training, and then a year-long recovery process after surgery. I hated missing out on competitions and watching training sessions from the sidelines. Here’s 3 of my favorite quotes that reminded me to keep my mindset strong while my body healed.

As a 59-year-old master who will make grandmaster soon, I strived my whole life in the martial arts to stay motivated. I have a Traumatic Brain Injury now that causes me to have an imbalance. And now it gets harder for me to stay motivated. This video put a lot of things in perspective in my life. I overcame many injuries and struggles throughout my martial arts journey and in my Naval career. My challenge now is my age, and with my imbalance. I work out in my walker, lean on my walker doing kicks, do sit-ups with an exercise ball and share martial arts knowledge with others. I wanted to share my story with you and to thank you for motivating me to continue in my journey to grandmaster. Oss. Master K, MA

I’m going through almost the same thing. I thought that I would never be able to practice taekwondo after my ankle surgery. I thought I would never get to run or jump either. But my doctor told me not to worry, and I was really down in the dumps. But after finding you I feel so much better, that you fought in the nationals and did so well! So if you can do it why can’t I! Thank you for this very needed motivation

I just sprained my ankle pretty badly while sparring during my red belt test! Sitting on the side lines and doing office work instead of teaching class has gotten me pretty down. But I remembered seeing your video about overcoming injuries on your channel and decided to check it out. Super inspiring! Thank you Samery🙂💕

My current struggle is to heal my right knee, which is down with bursitis from training. I'm also suffering from uncertainty in this pandemic. I need to increase my group training sessions eventually after this pandemic is over. So basically there's a lotta things going on. I find all of it so hard to manage sometimes. Thanks for the video Samy, I needed it :))) Also, good luck to anyone who reads this🍀

Thank you for you video. I'm just starting my karate training (3 weeks) and already have a break in my foot. The other half of the story is that I had stabilization surgery 13 years ago and the break started around the point of the anchor screws. So, I'm sidelined for a couple weeks by my doctor, but eager to get back out there and train. Thank you for your strengthening video also. I plan on using that.

I had double labral tears and FAI on both sides of my hips and had to get them repaired surgically and have bone shaved down. Mindset is extremely important, there were depressing moments while recovering where I thought I would never train again because it seemed hopeless. It was definitely a test of mental fortitude, I had to relax and put my focus onto my other hobbies and studies for the time being as there was absolutely no way I could train; I could barely walk without limping. When I was able to, I put my all into PT and listened to my body when It told me to take it easy. I think the most important thing to do during recovery is to not be overzealous, it takes time and patience. After I was able to walk properly again and I hit a peak with PT I started hiking religiously to build my strength and cardio back up and lose all the weight I had gained from being sedentary. Happy to say I’m back training again and I feel great. My range of motion isn’t quite as good as it was before but I’ve never felt better, and I still think I have room for improvement through stretching. Having gone through that I definitely feel stronger mentally. The surgeon said I should be able to do just about everything I was able to before and so far it feels that way.

Thank you for this. 💕 I had to take 2 year break due to both my knees. I was in severe pain each time I do my stances coz I had to hold positions for given period. I found out I haven't enough fluid in joint which meant my bone grated and I needed to constantly exercise or warmup before extensive training. This was hard coz I wasn't sure exact exercises to do at my own pace. When I went back I struggled mentally. I forgot so much such as kata... Felt like I was falling behind. Everyone was so ahead and I got so frustrated. I had struggled to keep up coz I have to gradually ease in and know my limits. Now I'm taking another break to get my mental state in check coz I was bullied by my sensei new gf who's on club committee. Its a huge strain mentally coz I tried everything incl confront her. But it made everything worse coz they twisted to their advantage. She even threaten to sue me for no reason. The issue is I can't switch clubs coz no other club close to me within martial art I studied 😢 These quotes are amazing. Thank you. It defin helped my spirits coz I need to hear these quotes. It not only applies physically but mentally too.

A nagging case of peroneal tendonitis that, in hindsight, has been with me since I was a kid. And selfishly, I don't want to do PT for it because 1. moving the ankle is what aggravates it and 2. I'm worried I'll be told to rest and not train but I'm honestly having way too much fun right now with it. So for now, I wear a brace and suck it up... But I worry that won't be enough one day.

I have 2 knees injury when I was in karate class. That I learned about how I felt my right knee had mild ACL and Mencius. I can go back, but not enough strength. I have to be careful and slow down. My left knee got 4 tear. I am very lucky for I had no surgery, instead of one my right knee is still not strength enough. I am responsible for what I can do and not can do. The best for who instructor cannot push to do it. All student have to right to say no can do. Instructor have to respect all the student right. One time I did concern and talk to my instructor in meeting. I listen to doctor told me no hit my head for my left eye had surgery Lens is in stitches already. If that happen I hit my head, I get blind and the doctor can't fix it. That is why I am responsible to retire the sparring and no over the body. My instructor say me no worry. I don't know how I feel confidence them. Till that time, my instructor said me do jump spin kick. I told him no I don't want that. I experience is very risk for my left knee had injury. They didn't listen to me 3 times what I told them. I stop for class anymore. My instructor was fault. Not my fault. The best all the student have to right to tell no and can't do it. Then instructor shall not push the student. Try different way for black belt test to change for 100%. I hope that help you. I am happy you never give up your ankle. That was good that you make a decision I am deaf and born called Congenital Rubella Syndrome. Not know my body can cause. That's mean I am disable physicals.
