I never use a "Source" although inspiration takes many paths that fuels your "inner sketchbook" I like being surprised by whatever emerges from my intense interest in the unfolding process. I am not sure I can claim originality as the ideas are coming through me from an "invisible source". At the time the painting or drawing is happening, I am in that world only, nothing distracts me and interruptions are unpleasant. I lie in bed still at it....painting in my imagination. Every scribble can become something if you look deeply enough. It's best described as being "in the zone" I guess I wish I had the money to participate in the Master classes. They make me feel so excited. I have raised 5 children and now have time to indulge ny passion. I know very little about marketing. I was a stay at home Mum! I would love to be able to support myself with my art . I am from California and have been living in England. My art has definitely been influenced by my birthplace. It is nothing like the artwork here. I feel embarrassed to show my work. There are some very excellent and skilled artists here. Prolific and I often wonder who holds the fort while their time is devoted to their art? I had very little time and no money being a single parent to devote to my art although I crocheted and sewed the children's clothes and duffle bags, that sort of thing. I now have an easel and purchased art materials and my new life shall begin! In am really grateful to have found your videos and your content is awesome. I am with you in spirit. Watching everything I can. Thank you so much for your brilliant help that you give others❤

Beautiful trip to the mind of an artist! I resonate with everything John said. Just create, even if it sucks, stay committed to your creative nature so it can wake up and stay awake ❤

I gave up on sketchbooks altogether. As an artist I have no attention span. And once I've done something I dont want to do it again. I feel its a waist of time. I go straight to the canvas. I have thousands of sketches in a drawer that will never see the world. If you are worried about waisting a canvas you can scrape it off and gesso right over it.

I do this, I have so many sketch books I never finish. I guess the idea is in there… but I always end up just creating it and keeping it like you said. But I have found themes helped me get a sketch book done once. Also I think my iPad is my sketchbook now! lol

I love the idea of a sketchbook in your mind as well as the tangible sketchbook. It’s easy to rely on outside sources. No problem with that, but how wonderful to have your mind filled with “sources”. Thank you so much for sharing. Excellent❤

John has such a creative way to look at everything..i so enjoyed this podcast! He reminds me of my dad ( which was an artistic soul ) he also used to say to just use your nugget..😂 Him and my dad would have made great buddies. Wonder if he realizes that he is a genius? And this is so inspiring because i am so stuck.. I am one of those people just dreaming and looking at my canvases all the time. John your family truly enjoy you I can just tell!

Thank you so much John, for including in this creativity emphasis, effort and discipline. And I love the idea of just getting over not having an idea and just do some thing. Thank you so much. Always inspirational! I hope you do more videos in the future🍿🏹🎨

guys thanks for this, pretty funny, but good questions, good responses . .i watched one of those other videos and was thinking this channel is all about business orientated art, now i think it's about business orientated art with dose of humor hah hah hah, just kidding, nice interview, lot's great ideas discussed, and best of all the non linear approach is pro creativity, pro fun, and pro painter

Yeah, but don’t paint while you are high on psychedelics. You think you’ve painted something amazing, colourful and profound. Then you look at it when you’ve come back down to the real world, and you realise you’ve just made a brown mess.
