@New York to UK Just because some are selfish people, there are some people out there who want to help, because they are not scared. Their success is not dependent on tearing other people down. Those people you want to be with.

Product photos, seo, promoted listings, and keyword research took my shop from 2 sales a month to over 80 sales this month. I love learning all I can to improve my shop!

I've been on Etsy for almost two years this month. It is hard people and not as easy as some make it to be. It all depends on what you're selling. Marmalead is not any good for those who have to use a particular key word but every key word that is being used is negative response. If you've not mastered SEO, Marmalead is not your program. Learning how to use key words will take up a lot of your time, a LOT of your time. I really do feel that there needs to be a SEO class for those who do not understand the terminology or how the program works. Good luck to all you first starters.

Don’t be affraid of international shipping - it’s no big difference to domestic one, just costs the buyer more. I am a small Etsy seller and all my sales on Etsy were international (with no issues at all).

Both of these ladies are talented solo-prenueurs. Jami has lots of great info at her site and on the Internet. She also has a membership program which you should investigate if you are just starting on Etsy. Becca has built a thriving business by carving out a niche in the art world teaching calligraphy. Calligraphy can have a lot of applications for both the Internet and brick-and-mortar stores. I highly recommend to anyone who wants to sell their crafts online to be sure and find out what these two have to offer. You won't be disappointed.

That whole perceived value thing. I am looking at starting up a handmade business on Etsy. One of the test case items I am using to compose a business plan is a beanie. I buy the beanie in and then embroider it. The embroidery takes 22 mins. I have 2 machines. So. I can make 4-5 an hour including set up time. The cost of materials, labour and postage combined brings the cost of making that beanie to about £9 shipped domestically. Similar in quality beanies on Etsy are around £25 and yet following the general advised pricing structure, based on costs, that beanie should retail for around £40. Who wants to pay £40 ($48) for a beanie?

I have really enjoyed watching this video! I have never used etsy but I've heard about it and I have some entrepreneurial ideas mostly in planners and possibly some other types of fan related merchandise but I'm definitely in the beginning stages of conceptual ideas and design but this is a good Outlet I might use once I get to the next stage! In the meantime, I will definitely become a customer and see what's out there!

47 million visitors a month - blimey. 😱 so huge 😊 I'm researching Etsy in a view to opening a shop with them next year 😊 il be "hoping" to sell my original artwork 😊 I've been calculating my prices and though it's difficult, I need to be a little profitable and so so yes I agree with you Becca when you said "wouldn't people find it better to sell less for more" basically as its quality - and that's what I'm going for. And putting a lot of effort into my packaging I create myself too. Thank you so much for all your help and advice 😊

Totally agree on pricing. There is so much variation on quality on hand made items on Etsy, people will still look for quality. I imagine pricing somewhere in the middle of your market is probably good to start. That way you could also offer a temporary discount to get some initial sales for short period to get reviews etc. Then stay where it is still profitable. Great video!

I say uline for boxes, not Amazon. Twice the price, I swear they are the same product, they buy from a place like uline, then sell it Amazon. To save on shipping with uline buy more then one type of product. The shipping does not go up much after the first item. And they use ups, not the "bad leave your order in the lobby/porch " shipping complain.

Just an FYI on shipping international. I started selling a month ago and stayed away from international shipping, but I had a follower on twitter that was interested in buying 2 of my items. I took a chance because she was really interested, and wanted to help me out. I told her if the items arrived damaged, she wound't have to reimburse me for the shipping costs. I sent the items to Hong Kong on 1/7 (the post office was no help whatsoever, you're lucky if you get a good morning from them). It cost me $23.50 to ship the items (1.8oz), and never thought she would receive them. It took less than 2 weeks for her to receive the items, they arrived intact on 1/16 (they were ceramic salt and pepper shakers). I will not hesitate now to send items international, but I would request payment in advance for shipping costs.

Bottom line...Etsy is a business and you must work it. If you do not go out and get leads yourself, just sitting back and expecting miracles, it will never work.
