why the 71 poem is read as yu-sareba instead of yuFUsareba? why the 100 poem is read as naO instead of naHO? Sorry about my English, I'm a Spanish language speaker from South America.

Hello, thank you for your comment! In the historical kana orthography of Japan, there was a sound change that affected the pronunciation of certain words. This sound change is known as "i-mutation" or "i-shift." It refers to the phenomenon where the vowel "i" in a syllable caused a preceding "u" sound to shift to a "yū" sound. In the case of "ゆふされば" from the Hyakunin Isshu, the original pronunciation in older Japanese was likely "ゆふされば" (yufusareba). However, due to the i-mutation, the "u" sound in "ゆふ" shifted to a "yū" sound, resulting in the modern pronunciation "ゆうされば" (yūsareba). This change occurred because of the influence of the following "i" sound in the verb ending "-sareba." The "i" sound caused the preceding "u" sound to shift to "yū" for phonetic reasons. It's important to note that historical kana orthography reflects an earlier stage of the Japanese language, and the pronunciation differences arise from the sound changes that have occurred over time. The Hyakunin Isshu, a collection of one hundred Japanese poems, includes works from various time periods, including the older stages of the language. When reading these poems, the pronunciation may differ from modern Japanese due to the historical kana usage and the i-mutation phenomenon. The same applies to "naHO" as well. We apologize if our response was complicated, but we hope it can be of some help in understanding. We would also be delighted if you could watch the video.
