I took a 20 year layoff.. I’m 52 , i started with light weight for 6 months, today I’m at a moderate weight.. the only thing I’m not using is the traditional barbell bench for chest and shoulders, not doing traditional barbell squats, I’ve built my own basement gym during the pandemic, I’m using bench press machine independent, shoulder press and a belt squat machine.. I still use dumbbells because it’s a must for me .. it’s been a year my chest shoulders and arms are back like i was 20 years ago.. need to work my legs more often, Everyone thinks I’m using something illegal for growth, i tried to explain what muscle memory is but they don’t believe it.. the hardest thing is dieting, I’m on high protein diet, I eat plenty of egg whites, lean meat , chicken and fish.. I stay away from sugars , bread and pasta and I strictly drink water .. I actually gained weight but didn’t increase body fat but I did increase muscle mass .. I need to concentrate more on my mid section .. I’ve been watching your videos for inspiration

I had a decade+ long layoff due to health issues that are resolved in my 20s and then being afraid of dying of an asthma attack after that (it had been years by this point). Im 52...been lifting off and on since 19. I suffer from chronic depression, which often leads to long periods of being a lazy, inactive vacuum cleaner of junk food....and I pay monthly for a gym membership. Yesterday, I was watching like my 8th episode of some mind-numbing show in a row, and I literally said, "Nope!" I got up and went to the gym. Did a few light sets of upper and lower body and went home. The only thing really sore is my elbows, but I'm going to go back tonight. Slow and steady, no rush, no ego. Please wish me well on my new journey

10 years absence. No lifting at all. It's weird coming back but I trust there's some muscle memory there after lifting for over 20 years prior to the break. Had alot of injuries, surgeries etc. I'm lifting feather weights, taking one step at the time and NO ego. It's hard to accept how much time this will take but it's a mission. I did a local search on my PC and found my old diet too so here we go.

After 1 month of lifting 2-3 days a week, I can honestly say, my muscle exponentially grew. My strength isn’t coming back as fast, but it’s definitely much faster than starting from scratch. Sorry to hear! It's tough to put the brakes on when we need a rest and it often leads us to injury or burnout. Take comfort in knowing that the human body is VERY resilient, and with proper rest and therapy, you should be back at it in no time! Stay positive, do everything in your power to take care of yourself (eating well, seeking out rehab experts, getting sleep, etc), and you will bounce back from this like a champ!

Now at home with Wife/2 year old/ Union job (the REAL blessings). Finding it hard to take it slow because now I’m back to 140/145 lbs and weak AF. But at the same time realize it’s a process. First off, welcome back to the real world! I know life is crazy now, but you ARE blessed to have a family and work to support them and the opportunity to be a free man. You can't control the past, only what you do moving forward. Take your time getting back to the gym. Perfect your technique while the weights are light. Prioritize recovery. You are now so sensitive to training after that much time off that you don't NEED to do a ton at the gym. You'll make progress with very easy, low volume workouts initially, so milk that for all it's worth! You'll be back in no time, but stay patient and take care of that family of yours! God bless!
