How to start a Routemaster bus
Ойын-сауық
One of the questions I get asked very often is; "do you need a key to start a Routemaster bus. The answer is totally dependant on which bus.

About Pete And His Bus: Pete is a normal (ish) guy who has a big passion for old vehicles and particularly old buses. He is NOT a trained mechanic nor is he a professional restorer. He enjoys converting vehicles but he can not promise that what he is doing is going to work on your vehicle. Nor can he promise that you won’t harm yourself if you were you to attempt the things he does. He recommends that you are safe and responsible with machinery and equipment even if you’ve seen him messing about with it. A workshop and it’s content can be a dangerous place. If you are in doubt about your own vehicle, contact a professional for advice.

Also, its sensible to make sure that hand brake is on and the semi automatic gear box gear selector is in neutral.... Also, cold starting engine good idea to have start at full throttle. :)

Don't agree about full throttle ......
@nathantutty7454
Жыл бұрын
@@Martindyna on a cold day, with a cold engine you'd be there a good while! You start on full throttle and ease off the accellerator steadily until you reach idle. To quickly the engine will cut out, esppecially with older vehicles than the routemaster with similar engines. That has slow idle speeds. Im not suggesting you sit there foot to the floor for a long period of time its within seconds (depending on conditions.)

@@nathantutty7454 I was thinking you would flood it with Diesel if it doesn’t catch quickly …… then you get Diesel fog coming out of the exhaust

As you can imagine, I couldn't agree more..
Different to when in LT service climb up leaving door open in summer as got too hot (against rules but no one bothered to enforce). Push in engine stop and pull down on starter switch after checking handbrake on and neutral selected. All were the same when owned by LT. RT's/RF's slightly different in that engine stop was the gas pedal just lift to stop engine.

Hats of to those men and women who drove these for a living to transport millions of londoners around, thank you! 👍. These things seemed awful to drive. Noisy, smelly, uncomfortable, seem to have such a cold feel to them.
