How to Starsector: Getting Started

At long last we take to the stars in the pilot video for our starsector series this summer. For this guide, we'll cover essential information every beginner in starsector ought to know, which includes trading, bounty hunting, travel, ship-fitting, and combat. My end goal is for whoever watches this video to know exactly what they need to get started.

@@paulrogersgamingThe best thing about your guides is you’ve succeeded where a lot of others have failed as far as balancing humor and genuine advice. You also sound deadpan and to this day, I watch your Howitzer Maze intro at least once a week because it’s hilarious. I don’t have any criticism for you at the moment, but I would stick to your plan as far as not entirely abandoning Kenshi once that well drys up while exploring other games. I’ve seen many other people play this game for example , but with this guide, not only do I have a semblance of what to do but am convinced to give it a shot!
Starsector where we take warcrimes to interstellar because the Geneva Convention doesn't apply to other planetary celestial bodies
I have been anting to get into this game for so long now OMG This finally convincing me to get and get into it love your vids btw
Very well explained and easy on the ears, nice one

31:25 you can "lower" your suspicion level by trading a moderate amount of black market stuff and a lot of extra stuff on the normal market. Won't do much for extreme but it helps to lower to moderate or low.

Shrike(P) is a pretty nutty starter ship, it can equip a Light Needler and Converted Hangar with Wasp drones.
@paulrogersgaming

Have you had any success with the Converted Hangar? Do you stick to using wasps for that? I have a hard time gauging how effective LPCs are compared to regular weapons.
@chainsawplayin

@@paulrogersgaming I mostly use CH as a replacement of PD weapons, so Wasp, Talon or Xyphos. I gotta say, Wasp is perfect against stations and fighters, and I've never really used CH for damage-dealing. Xyphos is great on Falcon(P) because if you outfit the shipwith 4 medium missiles, you have no space for PD.
@FunkThompson
Ай бұрын
@@paulrogersgaming With some LPC's it works OK; Wasps, Xyphos, Talon, obviously more from mod factions and such. They won't *live* long when under fire, and interceptors are not your best option; but the DPS isn't much effected. And Shrike is a baller ship for several loadouts. For the standards, Tac Lasers and Ion/Graviton for a long range fire support, or ion cannons and AM blasters of phase lance for strike loadout.

Converted Hangar Shrikes of both normal and Pirate versions allow freeing up PD duties for other things, which still able to squeeze benefits from Ordinance Expertise
i look forward to seeing for vids on the game from you. and i hope you enjoy making them too

I was going to make ship review videos, but now I want to make more guides AND ship review videos 😅
A video about the different ship roles would be pretty good. I find myself relying quite a bit on a carrier element.

Good idea. I realize I didn't mention the carrier role besides saying "drones are good". Personally, I also have 1-2 (if not more) carriers in my fleet. Love them

Heron with 1 Broadsword and 2 Daggers + heavy burst PD or Pilum + expanded crew deck
1. Traverse jump ability can be unlocked in story missions. Never try it as bonus burn is usefull anyway. 2. As you pay for crew salary and CR gives bonus above 70 and penalty below 50. It may be a good idea to be under crew usage to lower max CR per ship. It get splitted evenly so more ship see less drawback and supplyies usage.
i love this game
Hey man, I hope you don't mind if I comment something kenshi related. I recently started a playthrough which relies for the time heavily on operating out of a city, namely Brink. So I thought maybe you could continue kenshi, parallel to star sector, with city guides. For example you could analyze what ressoruces can sustainable be produced in the city, for example via the farms, ore deposits nearby, proximity to regions and factions , shops etc. Maybe you could present some hacks for living in the city, for example that you can establish jobs on farms, let the citizens do the work and haul it to your storage indoors and the like. As i said, hope you don't mind kenshi thoughts, just wanted to make sure it reaches you

My last playthru I got a tritach commission and had a black ops phase fleet for smuggling and raiding. I had a colony near culain that wasnt very profitable but very nice for stashing inventory and contraband. It was funny when tritach colony crisis triggered and I got to teach my business partners a lesson

Ah no talking about the Gremlin? Fair actually covering phase ships is a can of worms in itself as they turn a fair bit of combat on its head.

Something folks will need to know that you didn't cover is about what happens when you trade to the pirates. Pirates are a great place to sell general wares but NEVER trade weapons, weapon blueprints or ship blueprints to pirates. I know the money looks temping but *do* *not* *do* *it.* The reason for this is that pirates will begin to outfit their ships with weapons you sell to them. When you sell them blueprints you'll gradually begin to see them utilize said blueprints to outfit their ships and make new ships. The last thing you want in your game is the pirates having access to ships like the Paragon.
@paulrogersgaming

I love that this is in game. Fortunately, I heard about this before turning the pirates faction into a high tech powerhouse.

@@paulrogersgaming I learned this the hard way on my first ever play through a few years back.
@Aereto
Ай бұрын
I only do this willingly. Like I did when I sell a damaged nanoforge on Kapteyn Starworks open market once I reach inhospitable rep. I sell duplicate blueprints over there for strategic purposes first, lulz second. If I want the pirates to eventually beat a Star Fortress, I tip the odds in their favor.
remember save and load whenever you want, there is no shame in it, if you want a challenge thats fine just dont make the game a worse experience for yourself by not playing the game in a way that you like. if loading a save was not an intended game mechanic then they wouldn't have in the game. i say this because friends that tried getting me into the game would repeatedly insist that loading a save is scummy and not the way the game is meant to be played, i had a horrible rage inducing experience and haven't touched it since then when i first tried it years ago. the game is hard and unforgiving enough when you are loading saves, handicapping yourself when you are learning how to play will only lead you to hating it.
