How To Stake Your Monstera Deliciosa
Here's a look into how to stake your Monstera, so she stands up tall and doesn't flop over into your girlfriend's mouth while she's sleeping.
Out of all the houseplants we have, this Monstera Deliciosa is our most mobile. I'm constantly swiveling her around so she can catch just the right amount of sun, and staking her the right way is a huge part of how she's grown so huge!
I use simple wooden dowel rods from my local hardware store, but there are lots of different ways you can do it -- from using a trellis, to bamboo, to moss poles.

I recently bought a bunch of plants and I'm so excited to reunite with my old passion of plant growing! I have a cat that pushed my lovely ceramic pots off of every window sill when he was younger.. He's 7 now and I want to have plants again. Bought a Monstera a few weeks ago.. growing like crazy! Thanks for your video!
Loved the baby photo of the monstera 😭😭😭
I just got a massive monstera from a friend and she’s taking over the space! This is so helpful! Thank you!!
Haha this video might not have been the most informative, but more of a v-log with lively protagonists, which at the end of the day was more enjoyable than usual plant-related videos! But I still had a takeaway from it: 1. Rotate once in a while 2. Buy those wooden sticks

I can’t tell you how helpful this video actually is. I just got one in the last couple days that’s already around 3 ft tall and I couldn’t find anything about how to stake one more than a foot tall without a moss pole or a trellis that it will likely out grow. Here’s to hoping my bamboo poles will suffice for now

Omg I’m so glad I came across your page!!! I’m a plant mom and doing my best to get as much information on each of my babies so I can better care for them. I recently got a fully grown monstera and Im concerned that I might need to repot her in a bigger pot but not sure we’re to begin. Lol her leaves are everywhere but seeing this has calmed me a bit. I’m now reconsidering having to repot it and just getting sticks to help gather it together. Thanks so for this info ❤

I just got a few baby monsteras from my local hardware store! I’m so excited and am already looking up ways to support them. Thank you. This was the most interesting one yet
Dude that monstera is absolutely stunning. Kinda makes me feel bad about mine lol
I am so glad to see you do what I do to stake my plants. I am not a moss pole fan at all. Thank you for sharing how you support the structure of this beautiful plant. Mine is not as big as yours but holy cow ... it has grown alot and I have moved her so many times. Due to her medium size, I have finally found a permanent place for her. You two are funny btw :) Again, thanks for all the tips!!
My wooden stake rot at the soil level below after one year. The stem of my plants are so curvy now, do you think I can cut it out and ground the air roots somewhat safely with a new stake in place?
I'm only 30s into your video and wow 👌 guys you have it flowing 😊🙏🏼 love it. Keep growing and becoming your best self. Love always ✨️

Hey girls! I just got my first big-ish monstera and I had a couple of questions. I was reading an article about using wooden dowels for staking and they said to only use cedarwood otherwise the dowel may rot in the soil. Have you noticed any issues? Also it is now wintertime and quite dry do you use a humidifier ever for that big beast or does it just acclimate to your household temp? Tia!!!
@TheJungleUpstairs

Ooo that’s so interesting- I’m sure that’s true, but i haven’t had any rotting issues thus far! Also, YES, definitely need a humidifier in the winter!!

My Monstera has been growing really well, the issue is all the leaves are bent and it'd dropping to the floor, is it too late to stake it? will it adjust and grow up? iv has it for 3 years now.
She's beautiful! mine is about a meter high and already floppy. I staked and velcro'd her for now but I feel like she should be able to do that on her own when her stems are still very short (about 70cm)?
@TheJungleUpstairs

Even little ones do need some support, so as long as you’re giving her the stakes she needs she should start to get stronger!
I didn’t realize I was supposed to stake this plant, so it has 2 leaves that have grown in opposite directions. How can I get them closer to the middle of the plant? Their stems are stiff and I’m afraid they’re going to snap

I just got an adaptable coco pole and it looks so floppy on the pole but my baby ( the monsters) was always floppy without a stake, and I’m going to have to repot her hopefully it’s easier when They are staked
Amazing, thank you! Definitely subscribing for more tips. I've re-potted my girl today into a bigger pot (she's still young). Question, do they not need draining pots as they get older? I've seen everywhere that it's crutial to have them in draining pots but noticed yours doesn't seem to be?
@TheJungleUpstairs

They do need draining pots, I would highly recommend!!
Mine is sort of awkward rn 😭 he isn’t like a few major stems like in the video, there’s a lot of shoots and they are leaning mostly to left. I’m pretty sure I need a bigger stick for them but I’m trying to figure out how to shape them and tie them, I guess I’m not sure how 😭 they’re pretty tall and they come in many I think I need help 🥲
Very beautiful Monstera I have a question minds are starting to grow towards the floor be because the leafs are to heavy I see that you are using a pottery vase? I have one but it doesn’t have drainage holes is it okay to still use
Will the aerial roots cling to a wider wood plank or board, the way many Philodendrons and Pothos do?
What do you give your plant besides Water?
Would it be ok to use a beeswax line to tie it instead of Velcro? I can’t seem to find any local so I may have to order online but I need something in the meantime.
Very informative video! I have a sprawling monstera and have been wondering what to do to help it live its best life. I like the velcro and agree it is the best!
For a tiny plant could you use lil rubber bands and skewer sticks?
Awesome! How big is your pot? I am about to re-pot mine from an 8 inch nursery one and I'm thinking of putting it in a 13 inch one?

Yes, that’s about the same size as mine!
Can I manipulate a monstera leaf that is already super mature and growing essentially horizontal?

Yes, thank you! My monstera has been on a moss pole but is not sturdy enough now that it's bigger, and has been leaning and flopped to the side.
Amazing looking monstera! Question - do you usually have the monstera turned so its leaves are facing the window, and then you turn it away from the window when you want to look at it?

I am in the process now of staking my monstera and she is a monster like yours. I do have a question though. I am having to use sticks because I do not have the talent to make a moss pole evidentially. Two questions. 1.: does this plant HAVE to have a larger [ole to grab onto and actually increase the leaf size because it thinks it is a pole and 2.: How do you control all the crazy stems when staking?!!! Help!

Love this video I was just randomly wondering if I could move my monstera into my outdoor space and found this. My monsters is about 12 leaves behind your guy. Ty
This was helpful. Amazed at how it’s balanced it weight in that small pot. I hv a similar size pot so this gives me the confidence that I can make it work too. Doubts I have is I don’t hv soil but medium is coconut husks so I hope sticks will penetrate and I hv been cutting the roots off because I l they hv been tying my boardwalk flooring in my balcony. Love that you cooked them off the floor . I am afraid of doing it without breaking them
