How to Spin Silk (51 Yarns #17 'Silk')

PLY Magazine is running a Spinalong to coincide with the launch of their book, 51 Yarns to Spin Before You Cast Off. You can post your entries on their Facebook, Instagram and Ravelry groups with the hashtags #51yarns, #handspunyarn and #plymagazine. There's a different theme each week and you can find a list of the topics and other information here: plymagazine.com/ply-books/51-... The best part is that one winner each week gets a one-year subscription to PLY! I've decided to play along in video form as well by creating a video each week to correspond with that week's spinalong theme.
This week it's "Silk" and I'm spinning up two sample skeins to run an experiment with direction of twist - does silk produce a nicer knitted fabric if I ply it clockwise or anti-clockwise? Resources this week included Ply Magazine's Silk issue: plymagazine.com/product/silk-... and Interweave's "Spinning Luxury Fibers" with Judith MacKenzie: www.interweave.com/store/spin...
As I'm still catching up, I'll be skipping straight to Week 21: True Worsted and coming back to cover weeks 18-20 at a later date.

I think your video helped me more than any other I have watched. Thank you
I really enjoyed this episode. I doubt that I would ever spin silk alone, but it was sure interesting to see it spun up. Your silk yarn was super thin. Thank for making these episodes.
I’ve really been enjoying your 51 Spins episodes. Thank you!
A viewer suggested your channel to me and I’m so glad she did. Really enjoying your videos. I’m still a new spinner so it’s been super informative and interesting. And the cat antics are cute-I have similar trouble with my cat when spinning and knitting. 🙄
Once again, a very interesting and informative podcast, Becks! I really appreciated the two different samples that you spun up, and your discussion of how your knitted samples looked/felt. Thanks again for your conscientious approach in your videos...! Take care!
Very interesting! Blessings from South Australia💕🐨
Great information!
Thank!👏👏👏
I wanted to get the silk ply magazine but it was out of print but a least they still have the digital one.
This was very interesting
What ratios did you use? And thank you for doing this video!!!
Have U ever try peaceful silk called Eri silk.
Sorry, I'm on my husband's computer. That last note was from Margaret, not Mike.
Would you mind sharing the ratios you used :)
Hi Becks, Thanks for all the great podcasts. Quick question, what brand of mini scales do you use? Just wondering before I decide on which ones to get.
have you ever spun silk hankies on camera before ??
"Smooth skin," welp, I'm out. I can't keep my hands moisturized to save my life.
