Love this! I'd be super happy if my yarn turned out like that too! I have a few batts in the post heading to me now that I can't wait to get my hands on. Made me laugh a bit how similar we are when we spin - I stop now and then to ooh over how it's turning out too :D

The sheen and colors are gorgeous! I almost never thwack yarn, unless I want it extra fuzzy. Usually if it’s woolen prep & spun to full it a little too I guess. Wet finish and snap if some twist needs to be redistributed is my standard. Can’t wait to see what you decide to make with it…I see a rigid heddle project maybe????

I do whatever I feel the yarn needs. I use thwacking to full and distribute twist. Usually it’s a light thwack, or a few good snaps, but I’d be lying if I said I never had an over plied skein off the niddy noddy that needed a good thwack. 😂 I don’t have an always or never attitude about it. I steam most art yarn. I just don’t get the passionate one way is wrong and the other right argument. It is my understanding that thwacking is a more “modern”(I am solidly mid-50’s 😂) technique. Even with a balanced spin, and most of mine are pretty good, I still don’t have a problem thwacking to distribute twist/full. Wait until you see what I am spinning now, talk about sheen, this one glows from within!!

I wet finish and thwack but I never knew why. I just did because the interwebs told me I was supposed to. Now I know it balances twist. That said, I wait to thwack on my granite kitchen countertop when the dogs are outside because the noise the thwacking makes scares them.

Those are beautiful batts! I didn’t catch if you made them or got them from somewhere. Also, is that a Kromski wheel? I have a Kromski Sonata, and I’ve had mixed results with it.

I made the batts. Yes. I have 2 Kromski wheels. I spin my singles on my Minstrel and Ply on my Sonata(I have an auto level winder so it’s fast!). I love them both, but I prefer the Minstrel. The orifice sits higher and I am a taller woman, so I find it very comfortable. The Sonata is great because it’s portable and light. I can just throw it on my back in the back pack carrying bag. I would be curious to know what problems you have had with your Sonata? I have not had any trouble with mine, other than I went way too long before replacing my poly drive band, and didn’t realize how much elasticity it lost until I put the new one on and it was amazing!! If you want to see the video on how to make this batt I have 2 versions. One I just put out a couple of weeks ago, and one over a year ago. You can find them on my channel home, select playlist, carding/ combing videos and they will be listed there! Thank you for watching!
