Wow! As a non-techie person, I'm impressed with Jack explanations of those alien-like elements (to me) in PageSpeed Insights. I love how Jack speaks-clear and concise! My site uses the Astra theme, hosted by InMotion, without Google Maps or videos, only WebP images, installed the W3 Cache plugin and recently Airlift, but my mobile speed still remains at 60. I don't know what else I can do! 😄 Oh, you have a new non-techie subscriber!

The problem I always get with my metrics is that I have a pop-up set to open 5secs after loading, and these apps are always taking it into account! I always have to switch it off in order to audit my site speed... argh. The idea of creating a blank page for diagnostics is gold. Thanks, Jack!

Hello and thank you for your videos: you explain very clearly and I am taking valuable notes. I wanted to ask you: I'm building a site with Wordpress (to which I will then also add WooCommerce). Before putting the site online, I would like to finish it and optimize everything, which is why I am currently keeping the site in "Under Construction" mode. So I can't use the speed analysis tool before the site is online? I mean: the data is staggered because the "Work in progress" page appears. The data will be skewed because the "Work in Progress" page is likely to be much simpler and smaller than the rest of your website. I recommend using a staging environment or a local development environment to analyze the speed of your website before putting it online. Great tutorial, thank you! However, I want to add my 5 cents, because I know people are struggling with this, and some of the statements in the video are not correct IMO (image sizes). My experience is that 800px wide images are not even close enough to display full-width images on desktop screens. They will most probably look blurry. The 'CSS pixel size' on a laptop is 1300-1400 pixels wide, but due to high resolution (retina) screens, the actual pixel size is much larger. My MacBook Pro 13" pixel resolution is 2560 x 1600 pixels for example. Images should preferably be 2x the CSS pixel size. I usually make full-width images 2-2500 pixels, large images 13-1500px, and medium images 800-1000px wide. Thumbnails for card posts 5-600px. With higher pixel resolution, the compression rate can be stronger to reduce the file size. WebP images compresses in better quality than JPG, and I usually go for 5-20 compression rates. Compress manually in Photoshop to be able to preview the results for the most important images. Use automatic compression solutions for the rest of your images on the site. Also, page builders were not mentioned in this video, and they can have a huge negative impact on overall speed. Elementor with a lot of extra add-ons are a disaster for speed optimization and SEO. Many solutions also loads desktop images on mobiles, even if you set a smaller image on the mobile breakpoints. Furthermore, I'd like to recommend Bricks Builder, which is a new page builder and theme in one package. It's speed and clean, optimized code output is absolutely fantastic, and I always get 90-100 GTmetrix scores before any optimizations even have begun. It takes some learning of basic DOM structures and CSS, but it's well worth the effort, and is not very difficult. (I don't have any affiliation with Bricks - just a very happy user, and want more people to discover them.)

I tried using a CDN which actually slowed down my page speed by over 10 points. Why is that? I used Bunny CDN to try this. Btw, I Use WProcket.

You keep your site speed, you can Optimize Images, Minimize HTTP Requests, Use a Caching Plugin, Limit the number of plugins, and Optimize your home page to load fast. Also keep your WordPress and plugins up to date for security and performance. Make sure you are always running the latest versions of WordPress and all of your plugins.
