Same here, however, I've noticed that absolutely all of my notes are out of tune and now I'm here trying to see if it's just me, or if it's the ocarina itself

This should be the first how to play an ocarina video. I've seen video series on how to play ocarina, and never does anyone ever talk about how to breathe when playing the instrument. Very informative. I also got an ocarina from STL Ocarina back in July and I used your code.

@@GinaLuciani hey i was curious i like the way the ceramic ocarinas sounds is there a tenor ocarina that sounds close to a ceramic ocarina but more durable?

I've played the cello for 7 years and I have no trouble with the ocarina fingerings but I needed serious help with my breathing regulation so thanks for this video friend.

Printed my own ocarina and all your tutorials have been so handy for learning it rather than trying to figure it out myself One big thing I've found a lot of people don't realise with wind instruments is that putting your shoulders back increases your forced expiratory volume (i.e. the amount of air you can actually use; it's quite literally impossible to use the full volume, but we use the vast majority) It's the kind of thing a lot of musicians will find themselves doing without realising over the long term Also the breathing exercises are great for stress too Slowing your breathing increases the amount of CO2 dissolved in the blood (pCO2) which then forms carbonic acid and affects blood acidity The body realllyyyy wants it to be in a TINY range (7.35-7.45 iirc and its life threatening at like 7.25-7.55); so by slowing your breathing and increasing CO2, the body picks up that increase in acidity and slows the heart rate to help clear extra CO2 Especially for panic attacks I found this was so effective for those who could hold their breath to do it

The fact about how some are for decoration made me look at mine and realize why it only plays two notes

I'm not your target audience but as a long time ocarina enthusiast, i appreciate your videos and how they are inspiring beginners to pick up and start playing ocarinas. I hope you can keep it up and continue to inspire beginners to pick up this wonderful instrument. I know they aren't STL, but I hope one of these days you can try out some of the top tier Ocarinas made by some of the smaller artisan companies such as Spencer, Woodsound, Pure or Takashi :)

Hi Gina. I had a cheap, blue Zelda ocarina in C major. I had trouble getting clean sound on the high notes like for example Zelda's song of storms. After watching some of your videos and getting your discount code, I decided to purchase a 12 hole blue and white porcelain tenor ocarina in C major. It made a world of difference. I can play anything now and the sound is so clean. I play misty mountains cold to impress friends around the campfire in the mountains, they almost land in a trance at how beautiful the sound is. That breathing stuff reminds me of what my therapist leads me through for anxiety attacks, and vocal exercises from when I was in choir in high school

I've grown up playing various wind instruments and was always very good at getting in lots of air so it was very confusing when I was diagnosed with asthma, it turns out my lungs are way larger than the average person so with the help of an inhaler I've got almost ridiculous amounts of air to use XD

It's very true! I play the Clarinet, and when you are not breathing correctly, you run out of air fast and it might start to obviously hurt your lungs, which really sucks when you are playing a beautiful song! But again, indeed very true. :D

After over a year of seeing ocarinas pop up on the internet and me thinking huh that would be so cool to learn, I finally bit the bullet and bought one after coming across your videos. Thanks so much for giving me the confidence to go for it. I played clarinet for 8 years from elementary school all the way to high school graduation so I’m hoping that’ll give me a leg up in the learning curve haha. That's awesome! Handy side effect! If you have mild asthma, hay fever, or apnea, you aren't getting enough oxygen, and might want to see your doctor about your heart, and breathing, to make sure everything is okay. You probably know that already, and about minerals, and hydration, but good to hear! 😉

As a diver it definitely helped to understand this in terms of swimming! Great example and it finally made me understand what you mean!

Im getting a Phoenix ocarina and I’m excited for it to arrive next week

My ocarina just arrived mere minutes ago and I'm already watching this so I can get started

I was thankful my high school choir teacher had extensive knowledge in proper breathing and drilled that knowledge in us, along with various techniques; I frequently use the 5-7-8 technique to improve my overall breathing capacity. I wanted to follow along as I haven't done 8-8, but I had a yawning fit instead 🤣😂 the Dragon Ocarina is beautiful!

Never thought I could breathe wrong but here we are.

I started without this and it sounded not my best, but with this tutorial, I can play sarias song like a pro!

Thanks for the tips. I've learned how important lung capacity it is while learning from your other videos. Meditation really helped in that regard. Articulation - also helpful!

I play the flute so I've played similar instruments but I still like to how to play other instruments and I just got a ocarina so this is so useful

my 6th grade choir teacher taught us how to breathe properly! i may have forgotten the songs, but breathing correctly is second nature because of her and im really looking forward to learning ocarina :)

thanks Gina! yesterday I purchased an ocarina from STL, but forgot to put in your code LOL! breathing is really important. try it in your car or anytime you listen to the radio - take a breath in and then slowly breath out and see how many stanzas you can do. anyway, makes it a bit more entertaining - breathing that is.

She's right about the breathing technique. I played a trumpet and my band teacher taught me that you have to use the full diaphragm to play
