Square both numbers, then subtract. Gives you the same answer

Yeah and some of the hardest number puzzles I have seen in a while

For the second puzzle, I think the intended solution is to square each number and then subtract them from each other, so (x^2)-(y^2)=z. Seems a bit more intuitive to me

Naw even if you paid attention in math class these puzzles were still unintuitive if you came in with a mindset of trying to solve an equation using the rules you learned in school. And thats because they aren't really math equations but math puzzles. So really nothing that you learned in school about solving equations in algebra class would be of much help here.
