    Why not substitution sqrt(x) = u and simply calculate the solution using the pq-formula? Seems much more straightforward.

    So both terms have (x - 32) in them: x*(x - 32) - 8*(x - 32) Therefore you can factor out (x -32) out of both terms, I personally find it easier to think about it as both terms being multiplied by (x - 32) as a whole and it’s the same equation if I undistributed it out of each term. So then you are leftover with (x - 8)*(x - 32), which gets you the same equation as before, if you try to multiply (x - 32) to both x and -8 with the distributive property I hope that makes sense I’m not the best at explaining things

    @@djsalty3799 No, I actually like your explanation, because now I understand it. That was the point. The missing part was this transformation (x - 8)*(x - 32), which now makes perfect sense. I greatly appreciate your comment.
