    Thanks for showing this I was pretty sure that worked, when I bought organic bananas they were already wrapped and they would last much longer than my non-organic bananas, but you made the idea even better by wrapping them individually, yes it takes more time but then you don’t have to worry about once you pull one off of the first wrapped bunch , the bananas left behind don’t retain their seal as well in other words the plastic wrap works great the first time but not to re-wrap and re-wrap.

    Non-organic bananas? Like, lab grown? This organic/non-organic stuff is silly. All bananas bought in a store are organic. There's no difference other than the price. Slap a "organic" lable on fruits and vegetables and people will pay 200% more. Some vendors, such as yours will do some extras, like individually wrapped them. Sorry to rehash a 7-year-old comment but this one legitimately made me LOL.

    lmao. this is the most hilariously ignorant confidence I've ever seen. you do know that organic means they don't use pesticides on the trees to grow them? it's very simple science to prove an organic fruit is different from a pesticide grown fruit.... there are thousands of studies go ahead and google it. that's your choice to not eat organic foods, but it doesn't mean it's not a real thing. 🤣🤣

    HI this is amazing I will be doing this tomorrow. I am single and my bananas go ripe VERY fast since Im the only one eating them. BUT i was told from a friend that Bananas go Ripe quicker if put in fridge and I do it from time to time with open banana's half eaten and they look to me like they go black faster. I use them in my smoothies and sometimes I dont use a whole one if Im making a small smoothie. I love your vids.

  • @JudiintheKitchen

    @JudiintheKitchen

    Hi Richard! Thanks for watching and sharing! I'm glad the video was helpful to you. Regarding the bananas in the refrigerator...Actually the peels DO turn black when in the refrigerator BUT the banana fruit inside doesn't age so fast. Being chilled actually prolongs the life of the banana inside (slows ripening), despite its appearance. Also, if you have an overabundance of aging bananas, you could peel them and put them in a freezer bag, and freeze them. They are great to add to smoothies or for making "banana nice cream" (blended frozen bananas take on an ice cream-like texture and are delicious). Try it sometime! I make it very often :) Take care :)

    Hi AD! Thanks for watching and asking! Great question!! Refrigerating bananas will certainly slow down their ripening process quite a bit. If you leave them at room temperature, they will still ripen, but the process should slow down some by covering the stems. Some people have an aversion to refrigerating bananas because their skins will darken in the process. However, the banana flesh that we eat will be very slow to ripen (when refrigerated) despite its appearance. So, if you don't mind them turning dark while in the refrigerator, go for it! In my estimation, that's the best way to prolong their life, other than freezing the. I hope this helps! Take care :)

    Judi in the Kitchen Uw. Now all the bananas became overly ripe except the one in the ziplock bag. So the one in the bag may actually last longer than I previously reported. It may last 2 days longer than one the same age that only had a wrapped stem. Impressive! If it lasts more than 2 days longer, then I‘ll come back and let you know. Well, this is one way to occupy my time during the quarantine. 😆

    If you buy green bananas and then put them immediately in the freezer, would that prolong their life as well?

  • @JudiintheKitchen

    @JudiintheKitchen

    10 ай бұрын

    Hi! When you put bananas in the freezer, that will hold them at whatever stage of ripeness they are in. So a frozen green banana will stay a green banana. Bear in mind that when thawed, it will become very soft and mushy, so it would need to be used in some application like a smoothie, banana nice cream, or baked into banana bread or something like that. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching and asking :)

  • @preasail

    Thank you for your prompt, thoughtful, and logical answer. One reason, I think, many are curious about keeping bananas longer is that if you get a lot of them, when they are on sale, it can be pointless if they just can't be eaten fast enough before going rotten. @@JudiintheKitchen

  • @JudiintheKitchen

    @@preasail You have an excellent point! We go through a LOT of bananas since my husband eats a lot of them every day plus I add them to green smoothies. Here's what I typically do when I have too many going ripe at one time. I simply peel them, place them in a Ziploc bag and put them in the freezer. The frozen bananas are great for smoothies and also for making banana nice cream. They can be used also in recipes that call for ripe bananas. That way, our abundance of ripe bananas never go to waste. I don't freeze green bananas, though...only the ones that are turning brown. I hope this helps! Take care :)

    in the US/UK, are people legally allowed to grow bananas in their backyard?

  • @JudiintheKitchen

    In the United States it IS legal to grow your own bananas. However of course, your local climate would need to be tropical, so that would limit who could actually grow them. I know they can be grown in Florida (my parents used to live in central Florida and had a banana tree in their backyard). I cannot speak for legalities in the UK.
