How To Slide Your Board - Evolve Skateboards Weekly Ep. 37

Спорт

In this weeks episode we will give you some tips and trick on how to slide your board. Since the release of our Pro Tips video a few months back, we have got a number of questions around the best way to slide an Evolve skateboard.
Sliding an electric skateboard can be a little different to sliding a normal skateboard or longboard as you have direct control over your speed via a remote and don't necessarily have to be going downhill in order to pick up the speed you need for performing a slide.
In terms of Evolve skateboard tricks - this is one of the most popular. In this video Justin, Nick and Kayne will take you through the steps needed to perform a slide on your board and also cover important aspects such as wheel choice, truck setup and safety gear. Sliding an electric longboard properly does require practice to get right, so make sure you take plenty of time to work on it. The first time you do manage to slide tends to be something you remember :-)
There are many videos on how to slide your longboard but as mentioned, an electric longboard is a little different due to throttle and braking control. This video covers the techniques need to achieve a great slide!
SAFETY FIRST
Remember to be fully aware of your surroundings and ensure safety comes first. Always wear a helmet and other appropriate safety gear.

More of this content! A lot of us are not life-long skaters - there are some basics that maybe we didn't pick up as kids - or a lot of time has passed and the muscle memory is a bit different to the physical reality... I think boards like yours can get people into situations well above their skill level. Falling hurts more at 40+ than it did as a teenager - physically and financially! Sliding isn't just fun I think it's a safety thing.

Hey Evolve! This is my favorite episode. Always gets me amped to hop on my GTX street and go for a ride. I've been a skater for a while but have never really given long boards, let alone electric ones a try and having these videos have helped me get up to speed quickly. Not to mention they always pump me up to ride and try new techniques. The "Riding Hills" episode also proved invaluable to learn how to ride the board efficiently around my very hilly neighborhood. I'm in total love with my board and look forward to every new video. Hyped! Always Evolve!

I like the idea because it’s not about break! It’s enjoy your longboard completely. Slide is part of skating and electrical longboard is not just a vehicle is a proper LONGBOARD!!! 🏂

The episode 41 for me is the favorite because I understand the differences in the use of street wheels compared to those for all terrains; I was interested in understanding what was the best solution in my case, using it mainly to move from one garden to another to follow my crops and also to carry out door-to-door deliveries. I think the wheels for all terrains are the best performing solution in my case. I hope one day to be able to have one of your boards, to move in a green, fun way, and to pass this on to my children, in addition to agricultural work! Bye!

Used to slide the back out during basic carving, eventually built up having the tail come all the way out either side, carbon gen 2 single drive, learned it in dubai on the marina walk in 2015. Almost nobody had boards back then.

Excellent episode, definitely need to practice sliding. One question though: what exactly are you doing with the remote while sliding. Do you freewheel or are you acceleration through the slide?

What do you do with the trigger/remote as you slide, just let it go and go neutral?

  • @DrLeute

    @DrLeute

    6 жыл бұрын

Keep the trigger constant to maintain the slide in a curve, if you happen to drift too much to the outside of the curve you can accelerate to break out your back wheels further which will allow you to get closer to the inside of the curve again - same like kicking out your black foot further (don't over do it though since you'll be sliding straight otherwise). Also, if you are very fast you do not need to hold the throttle. It you do a pendulum slide you can also let go off the trigger until done. Cheers, Matt

So sharper wheels are easier? I got road wheels on mine. They're very grippy and rubbery for longboard wheels and have a very curved bevel... so should i get sharper edges?

Wouldnt sliding like that be really bad for the motors? I'm not talking to drift and then keep going straight. Coming in at like 10 15 mph then hitting the full 180 and turning around so ur now facing the back wheels and the boards rolling backwards technically. wouldnt that transition be like super bad for the motors?

Unpopular opinion: You shouldn't slide too much on an electric skateboard. Coming from a background of sliding on regular longboards, it's something that you NEED to do to slow down. However, e-boards have brakes; if you're treating your e- board as a commute device, the more you slide, the more you wear down your wheels, and the more easy it will be to accidentally break traction when you don't want to, when it's raining outside and you're commuting on a busy road with lots of cars. In fact, a lot of the stock wheels on e-boards have really low durometers for the purpose of being as grippy as possible, so that you don't slide accidentally (and giving you a smoother ride). Sliding would take away that benefit

Why don't you guys get an experienced skater to test out sliding for you? Someone who has extensive freeriding on a non motorized board, can really push the limits on an eboard. Not these dudes doing slides at 15mph
