Everyone talks about how good he did on Tennessee Whiskey, but if you listen to I Was Wrong, you get the whole package. Chris hits a note at the end of the first chorus that's higher than his usual range, he distorts it, AND does a bunch of those undulations you referenced about the body movements. Amazing song, and a one of a kind performance

Man funny l see this cause l just found this vid after hearing that song and that man had some SOUL in his voice singing that song. I would've expected hearing that song being sang an older black man singing that with a broken heart in a smokey bar

sometimes i cry is my fav. live. especially live.
Dude, every now and then you find just what you need when you need it. I have a voice coach out of Nashville. Baritone here with my break at A4. She is amazing, but she does not like rasp and wants me to sing clean. I want that gritty sound. Every time I tried to sing with rasp my voice was growing tired. I knew I was doing something wrong. This just cleared up a lot! Thank you!
Great lesson Sterling!, i hope you do more soon
Really liked this and will be coming back, nicely done Sterling. As someone who's doing his best to vocally cover Tennessee Whiskey these days, I'll take all the help I can get.
You're explanations are easy to follow.
I watched a video from you a year ago regarding rasp and you suggested not to try it if you haven't learnt some of the fundamental aspects of singing (like support and breath control). I listened and spent a year learning. I've come back to you and I'm so happy - I'm able to learn some of the harder things your teaching and the way you teach is amazing. Spoken so simply and giving without ego.

Hey that’s great. Thanks very much 😊😊
Just like people come out of the womb that can run really really fast, some people come out with an amazing voice. Us folks that aren't as blessed in that regard just need to tip our hat and put the work in!! Not saying that the folks that have a natural ability don't put work in. It always takes work to get to the top.
Love this! Trying to cover drowning from the red clay strays since it came out finding it hard to do it as often as he does it in the song 😅
After watching this video I don't feel like I've just watched a tutorial. Instead, I feel like I just received some serious education on the complex mechanics of CS's vocal style. But beyond that, it opened my eyes to techniques that can be applied to many vocal styles. I'm definitely using your video as a reference and guide for my own musical journey. Incredible and practical information. Thank you. Liked and subbed.

Thanks George 😊
You are absolutely right, he is amazing! Could you also do Darius Rucker? Another unique voice, and a very versatile musician!
I really appreciate this video. I’m also a baritone and my voice is lower than Chris’. I put the song I’m testing down half a step and it’s way more comfortable. I don’t even squeak when I go too high - my voice just stops lol. I love seeing a video that encourages singers to understand their range and limitations. Too many videos basically say “you can do anything you just need to try harder.” And people are gonna hurt their voice. Thank you. I’m here to learn the rasp!

Master, i love your lessons and your dinamics in the different versions of some covers. Can you do a lesson about belting with distortion? I love you covers of Alice in chains, and the way you catch de esence of Laney voice its flawless.

I will definitely get into that topic more but check out my video on Chris Cornell or Chris Stapleton as I cover a bit of that stuff on there 😊
I am looking forward to learning.. My 7yo daughter and I are like sponges..
i came for the shirt; stayed for the content. speaking of content... do you have a deep freezer i can borrow?
Can someone explain to me how he hits the second to last Higher in the song Higher.......?
10:40 when i do this sound at my throat, it kinda hurts. What could i be doing wrong? Like i can make the sound but anything more than 5 seconds the back of my throat hurts
I've always wondered if singers like chris stapleton go out of their way to sound unique and trained to sing with rasp, or if he just sang in his most natural placement from square one and just tuned out to have the perfect rate of rasp, grit and twang.
How does he sing without mix when he sings so high. Cannot be just chest or is it?
You'll love Colter Wall. A special guy.
You've got such a great voice yourself. My thoughts go to Chris Cornell. Hope that's not an insult.
