What also maybe could help is first singing along in your head while strumming, and mouthing the words along, so you don't get thrown of guard by your own voice, but you can also kinda practice that way. And then if you can sing it along in your head you can actually start to sing along.

Day 3 of learning to play ukulele! This was really helpful and helped me realize that it’s going to take time to sing and strum at the same time, and to not be so hard on myself 😊

i find you way more clear than french teacher ! it's a little hard to learn english songs being french but thanks to you i'm capable of playing uke more or less comfortably !!!! love u :)

When I started Ukulele about a Year ago, humming the sung melody (instead of singing) helped me a lot keeping the focus on the Uke - then singing just the chorus - then sing and play together.

for the longst time i genuinely thought she doesn't smile but now I feel satisfied

I had 10 yrs of course from I was 8 when I first started in 1976 to 1986 organ... I played many concerts overt the years my first concert was in 1998..in a full church with a orchestra.😄🎶🎹 got trophée 🏆... Certificat exam’s...I started working in1987& i was ask to play a 3 hrs of music in a hall at my village where I lived for a special organization breakfast, Was ask also to play at the animal fair..in a arena of the artisanal, many lady’s with Original home made styles coutures.Were in a contest. They were displayed there talent & art ... 🎶🎹 was awasome...

I struggled with this when I first started (about a year ago) and learned by taking it slow, and I would start with humming while I played and sang the words later on!

I loved that with my ukulele I could practice singing. For a long time I practiced only the down strums and it really gave to time to learn chords, learn how to get comfortable with playing an instrument, practice timing and practice my singing as well. Because the down strums where easy I could choose songs that where a bit harder and I could also experiment with choosing my own tempo and singing variations. To everyone that wants to play an instrument but is scared to. Buy a ukulele and just do the downstrums until you're comfortable doing more. It still sounds great and you can really practice how comfortable you are with an instrument.

I think it's a wall everyone hits, either the strumming, singing or both need to become second nature for it to work and the only route towards that is indeed practice, practice, practice. My right hand used to completely forget it belonged to me as soon as I opened my mouth to sing, probably in an effort to disown me because it was embarrassed at how bad I am. Good video

A great tip that helped me is to learn the strumming pattern, then take a voice memo or video of yourself just playing for a while. Then play the video and play along with yourself and sing with it. It worked pretty well for me.

When I watched this about 3 weeks ago, I couldn’t strums and sings together. I followed your technique and kept practising with different songs for 3 weeks and now I can do it😃. It takes a while to practise, but eventually you will get it.

Yes, thank you for the single strum advice. I found myself doing this in parts when I first tried to sing while playing.i will do it all the way now. Can’t wait to try it.

My favorite strumming pattern is probably DDUDU I’ve been playing ukulele for 9 months now and I already know barre chords :) Elise you taught me a lot of tips and things which I love and I’m also self-taught, and now I’m learning guitar! (Also gonna teach myself guitar!) I love your videos so much, they really help me! :)
