How To Sight In A Variable Power Crossbow Scope

Спорт

Do you need a chronograph to sight in your variable powered crossbow scope? Absolutely not. In fact, I believe your scope will be more accurate if you don't use a chronograph. Here's how to sight it in.

    I installed this optic on a crossman 760 air rifle.I have now shot the riffle around 500 times during target/plinking practice, and the kzread.infoUgkxc4K63Fd5LglDMObu7-Bgapxp_ef0W8hE scope has done well.With this optic, I have neutralized around 30 pigeons that were invading one of my buildings.For my short range air rifle, I will continue to use this scope, but will be upgrading to a more powerful scope, when I buy a more powerful air rifle, in order to shoot at longer distance.For the money I have spent, this scope has truly been a great buy.

    I just bought a hawke xb30 scope for a barnett crosbow its speed is 405fps, i shout a 125grain broadhead does that mean that I will set my speed ring at 400 fps for the weight of the broad head and arrow.

    I purchased a Speed scope to replace my Barnett drop tine XT 360 scope. I set the speed to 360 and found I could not adjust it to hit dead on at 20 yards. So I dropped the speed setting to 350 and had plenty of clicks to zero it in at 20. I called in some turkeys the other day after site in. They came in 50-60 yards and no further. I took a rested shot from my stand and hit my targeted bird directly. UTG® OP3 1.5-6X36 Crossbow Scope, AO, RGB, 130 Hunter BDC.

    Adjusting the speed has nothing to do with setting a 20 yd mark

    You absolutely can can use a chronograph. Chrono your crossbow dial the speed turret in to the speed on dial. That should get you real close to bullseye. Then fine tune your scope dial.

    So what power/speed do you shoot at 20 yards?? The lowest or what you think your bow shoots?

  • @brandylgott

    @brandylgott

    Was wondering the same thing. But at the end he was saying your 20yd would always be on, even if you move the dial, so I guess it wouldn’t matter. Still, think I would still start with the speed I think I’m getting.

    You set your speed to what you think the bow is shooting with the weight of the arrow and field point/broadhead your using! A heavier arrow, field point, broadhead combination is going to shoot slower than any lighter combination of the three! If your bows shoots say 370 fps it will tell you, or your manual should tell you with what grain arrow that will be accomplished accomplish with. What they often don't tell you is say your bow shoots 370 fps with a 400 grain arrow. Alot of times manufactures don't tell you the speed with the additional weight of whatever the hell field point or broadhead that they had to put on the tip of the arrow. So they say they used a 370 grain arrow, but leave out the fact of what grain tip they used. So they say 370 fps...okay fine, but is that TOTAL WEIGHT? Arrow...PLUS TIP? Or did they shoot a 270 grain arrow with a 100 grain tip for a total weight of 370 grains? Pretty GD confusing...to slot of people all I know. I just called my manufacturer up and asked them straight up "Hey clowns...since you have to have a triple major in aerodynamics nowadays to shoot your bow with the results that one would feel comfortable taking a shot on any animal in the woods. What was the TOTAL WEIGHT you used to accomplish the 415 fps that you say my bow will shoot? Everything? The arrow, the vanes or feathers, the tip, the paint, was it a field point, was it a broadhead! Ridiculous really. With what one pays for a nice set up nowadays it should be a hell of alot easier...all I know!

    could be your mounting of your scope is not true vertical to your bow. my factory scope that came with my Barnett xt 360 was dead on at 20-25 yards but off to the left at 50 yards. I replaced the scope with a speed scope that has a built in level. Wow made leveling the scope a breeze also use a weighted string line hanging at 20 yards to level the vertical line in your scope.

    Zack Oddy How much is too much? Barnett makes a nice one for bout $100? Give or take $20, i dont remember. Works GREAT, though! Like this man said, site it in at 20, then fine-tune it at 30, it adjusts for your arrow weight. And Im perfect out to 70! Red and green lit reticles, too!

    Hi Jason, A lot of it depends on your budget and your needs. There is probably not a "one size fits all" option. We really like the Hawke XB30 Pro, Hawke XB30 Compact, Hawke XB1 SR IR, and the Excalibur Twilight DLX. But there are a lot of good ones out there.

    This isn't making sense to me as it applies to the s koe magnification. If I adjust my fps on the scope to 400fps then I'm at full 5x magnification. What if 9 don't want full 5x magnification at 20 yd? Then I would dial it down to 1.5 power and correlates with the 280fps setting? I don't get it.

  • @MrEye4get
    @MrEye4get4 жыл бұрын

    Great explanation! Seems putting FPS on a crossbow scope just adds to confusion. As you stated, you aren't actually using the bolt's speed to make adjustments. You are simply adjusting the point of impact; up or down. Why not just have arrows showing + or - on sights? Just saying.

    No he said you're not using the advertise speed on it you are using the actual speed your bow will get If you get excited in at 30 at 30 using the speed dial and then check it with the chronograph it will be pretty close

    It depends on if the scope reticle is in the first or second focal plane A riflescope's reticle is placed in either the first focal plane (FFP) or the second focal plane (SFP). The main difference between them is that an SFP reticle will appear to be the same size regardless of magnification. Simple really and nothing special.
