I am 58 and my three words are classic, edgy and sophisticated-my wardrobe is about 75% black and is filled with silk midi and maxi dresses, black blazers, jeans, and neutral button-ups and sweaters. When I buy anything new these days, I always visualize how the item will “play” with everything I currently own. I used to have an issue with buying beautiful colorful clothes, e.g. a bright floral sweater, which I would then never wear, because I mostly wear black and neutrals. It was a big lesson to learn I could absolutely love an item, yet leave it in the store because it wasn’t “me.”

Thank you. You’ve made me realise at last that my underlying fourth style word is Autistic. For example, I love simple dresses because they’re easy for me to style and layer when necessary, without confusion. Style uniforms and a definite colour palette are good. But I can’t tolerate anything even remotely itchy. I also can’t cope with high contrast geometric patterns because to me they look like they’re moving. I would love it if you guys could talk with other KZreadrs about how disability and difference affect their style and ability to use slow fashion.

    1. Practical: if it doesn’t have pockets and I can’t run away from the zombies in my outfit, then I’m not going to be comfortable. 2. Historically- inspired: I love to pull in antique looks, especially masculine ones. Newsboy hats, Mr. Darcy duster coats, grandfather collars, tweed blazers. 3. Confident. When I dress in my style I am hugely confident. I own the place. 😊

In my 20's I loved the homemade vests my mum made me, worn as tops. I paired them with harem pants and maxiskirts. When I turned 30 I donated all my fun clothes and tried to dress like a 30 year old in tailored shorts, tees and classic clothes. I looked old and dull and I felt uncomfortable. While I will never wear orange and yellow striped jeans with a white lace crop top again there are elements of those days I can redo. I have bought a couple of vests (new and thrifted) that I wear done up or open over a silk cami. I found an amazing pair of linen pants in a thrift shop, put the 3 items together and suddenly feel like myself again just a more grown up version. Still don't know my 3 words but my daughter calls me an ageing hippy sometimes. Then I can get up the next day and don a pair of jeans and an undone button down linen top. Maybe I am an ageing bohemian chameleon

Retired for a year now, I'm still struggling to find my "style identity" since, for years, my work style had to be "business casual". I love the idea of blazers and own three, but even when I was working, they looked too dressy to me, so they were seldom worn. I'm very attracted to the look of a tee shirt, jeans and a blazer and I'm trying to get more comfortable in that style. I have yet to identify my three style words but I do like casual, classic style and of course, everything has to fit and feel comfortable. The quote Christina said, "Aim for nothing and you'll hit it every time", really resonated with me. I guess I just haven't found "my" signature style, so right now, my three words would be casual, classic, and confused. 😅

I like that you emphasise that style can evolve. I am in my 60s and I have always preferred classic and simple. In the last 10 years I have always included modern or contemporary to ensure I dont get stale and since retiring this year I have added slightly relaxed eg wider leg pants, less structured button ups. Never a frill, tier, puffed sleeve or floral has entered my wardrobe! Have appreciated what I have captured from your podcast and following the 3 of you independently for some time.

This is an excellent conversation! So helpful. please never worry about repeating yourselves. Supposedly it could take 6 times of hearing the same thing for it to sink in to our long-term memory. Hearing the stories helps cement these truths. I've struggled with the 3 words I've only been able to come up with 2. But I'm realizing that I actually had 3 all along. I had classic and casual. Now I realize that casual has more to do with The look of the piece and comfortable has to do with fit and fabric. So that's my third word.

My second word (aspirational) I think is Soft Edgy - like a frayed jean hem rather than ripped jeans and a tan suede Moto jacket rather than a black one. I’m having a hard time with my 3 words. I’m a Gemini and am always changing up my looks. Sometimes I’m boho then classic then goth this makes it both fun and a bit crazy. 95% of my wardrobe is thrifted and or upcycled so for one word I’m thinking eclectic and second comfortable. The 3rd I’m just not sure. Maybe playful???? Today I’m sick so it’s leggings my uggs and oversized turtleneck fisherman’s sweater and long overcoat. But last week wore silk maxi skirt boots and cropped denim blazer over turtleneck. Wore a grey sweater dress with tights boots and a hooded gray blazer I upcycled. My 3 words need to allow me to stretch and not squeeze myself into a bottle. So for now eclectic, comfy and playful as in dress up 😀

Great topic. I think my style words are also CMC (chill modern classic in the sense that Amy from TIBI talks about), but I am still looking for my modifier. This year I invested in a ton of silk and tencel pieces (slip dresses, skirts, tanks, pants, even jumpsuits) because I found a deep discount code for Grana on one of the fashion KZread channels I watch. It’s a really great company based in Hong Kong if you’re looking for elevated basics made from quality natural materials. I also added linen pieces from Quince. The new pieces in these different textures really elevated my wardrobe, which was full of mostly foundational pieces and basics made from cotton, denim, bamboo, wool (starting to feel a little too flat). I feel like this stage in particular has been one of the most fun parts of the “slow build” approach to creating my minimalist wardrobe. I love adding these textures into minimalist looks!

I think I’m going to trial Chill (like slouchy but it means I don’t always need to choose oversized), textured (encapsulates what I want from both rebellious and luxurious) and sexy (if I use this as a style tweak I’m more comfortable using this - the clothes that I wear don’t fit into the typical sexy box but it’s how I choose to wear them!)

My three words are artsy, fearless, and casual. Fearless because I didn’t feel like edgy or alternative was enough. I span a range of alternative styles and I like taking risks, so that word was very hard to settle on originally. And it works whether it’s an out there outfit, or a much more casual one. It’s almost less of what I’m wearing and how I’m wearing it.

I'm still struggling with articulating my three words, but the closest I've been able to come up with so far have been: cool, easy, and refined. And while I'm not thinking of the three words consciously when I'm out shopping, there are definitely times when I'm drawn to something and nearly take it off the rack to try on before saying, "Christine, you will never wear that. That is not your style." Sometimes I'm even in the dressing room with it on before I manage to catch myself. "Sure, it's beautiful, but it's not YOU." And like you guys said, being honest about how many pieces I already own that are in a similar vein has kept me from picking up yet another of a too similar item.

Finding 3 words to define my style wasn't that easy. Because sometimes words have multiple meanings, you know. My “classic” isn’t necessarily someone else’s take on “classic.” My search led to Ellie-Jean Royden from Body and Style and her 8 style roots and 56 style root combinations. In this way I've found a framework in which aspects of my style fit. For practical reasons, I can already eliminate quite a few clothes from the stores anyway. Hannah Louise Poston explains it very well in her video 'How to find your personal style (3-step method)'. I find that I only feel good in what I wear when personal taste and functionality come together.

I also have three words that guide me in everything I do and that inkludes my wardrobe. These are Kind, Graceful and Cool. I want people to see me as a person that always are kind to others and myself, Graceful in the way I look and conduct myself and Cool as in chilled and not taking myself and life too seriously. Always trying to see the positiv in life, people and with a big laugh ( or hug) at hand. I always want my cloths to reflect that! I also want to say that one of my daughter in laws called me cool in her speach at my 60th birthday party. Always an interesting topic, my three words are also CMC, and my modifier is glamorous. But even with this three gatekeepers it is sometimes difficult to focus... because what exactly is classic or chill? Or how do I navigate within this concepts in order to find my personal style?

Thank you for this video, very informative! I've been thinking while listening to you and I think that my three words are elegant, casual and flattering. But somehow I feel that sometimes my clothes are just one of those words 😅

Hi ladies, another great video as always. My style words are classic, feminine, and comfortable. A possible video idea would be the sustainable fashion movement and the high cost many retailers charge for pieces that are marketed as being of better quality. Another KZreadr I follow, Val Kovalchuk, discusses this in one of her videos and I’d be interested to hear your take.

I like your podcast and I like you 3! I have difficulties to find my 3 words although I think I found my (new) style during the last 12 months. Would you be willing to look at some of my “favorite style-selfies” and tell me what you see?

What is frustrating about this topic is knowing what you want but not how to articulate it. I feel like if I could better articulate what I want I would be better able to shop for what I want and organize my style. What even are all the nice style types? I have no idea what terms to use to narrow it down and identify the style type that I like.

Hi ladies!! I am enjoying this podcast a lot, thank you!! I was wondering if you could do one on underwear. Is so hard to find comfy bras (for example) that look good. I've been buying the fit everybody from skims but I think that the quality is low, they lose shape fast and the pilling. Maybe you can share what you like and use. Thanks!!
