How to SHOOT for the EDIT - Techniques for a GREAT CINEMATIC Sequence - Tutorial

The way you film dictates the way you edit, and, consequently, the video you end up making. This week I decided to share my methods for planning a shoot and how to shoot for the edit. Make sure to send your own edit in for a feature next week! ;)

Can you do a video showing you actually filming so we can get a sense of the movements for a b roll sequence.

Honestly the best advice there is, to think of the edit when shooting. I have no film background and started filming my travels last year when I went backpacking through Europe and realized how difficult it was when I got home to edit the footage when I had given no thought to the edit. Always improving and I feel like I’ve gotten better at this but it’s such good advice!

Brooooo!!!! This is deadass one of your best videos. It’s honestly so insane how there are these little things that don’t stand out a ton, yet they add so much to the edit. And how you execute them and explain them is really respectable. Amazing job dude

Always whip the camera in a direction quickly at the end of your shot and if you’re moving the camera forwards, pull it backwards too, this gives you more options when editing 👊🏻

that. was. lit. i am so impressed that you did not rely on transition effects like what too many youtubers do. these were mostly simple cuts! but the video is great because of the shots themselves and how they were arranged; not because of flashy transitions.

You would think shooting wide, mid, then close would be common knowledge but I never even thought of it. This video is definitely going up my video game.

Ahhh wow I like what you said with ending the shot with the beginning. I had to go back to get a double take. New youtuber (1 yr) here with next to nothing in camera/editing skillz. Found your channel randomly and really like your content.
