    I have been using Magcor as my courier for my bbox at $55 luzon area & takes 3 mos w/c is the usual shipping days now since the covid yrs . I drop it to the warehouse in metuchen when we go to NJ cuz we live in Boston. I use to send my boxes in an agent in Boston w/c is also $55 but since we always go to NJ i always wait for the days that we are going so i can drop it at MAGCOR. I got NO prob w/ Magcor. Great information...I live in northern California, and have used Atlas Shippers from the bay area the last 3 years. The average transit time is 8-10 weeks, and runs about $75 a box. I ship 2 boxes each time, or 8 boxes total so far. Each time my boxes have arrived, they have been completely intact, and look just like the day I dropped them off...Since I'm retiring next year, I'm putting a few things of my own in each box, and doing the same with my luggage when I go on vacation. Fly over with 2 full suitcases, and fly back with 2 empty suitcases...

    Moved to Bohol about 6 months ago from SoCal and used 4a's cargo as they were cheaper than LBC and had larger jumbo boxes. I think we sent about 15 boxes in all @ less then 100.00 each. 4a's cargo is based in Cebu I believe and locations may be limited in the US.

    Grandpa, I had sent a 20 foot container twice from California to Cebu. The shipping company charged $2,300 each container. When it arrived in Cebu port I hired a trucking company to haul to my town the charged was $200. With regards to the customs, I personally went with them to inspect the cargo , no broker involve. The recent delays in the arrival of Balikbayan boxes to the Philippines are the port congestion in the U.S. and the delay in transshipment of the containers from China to the Philippines. These are the 2 major reasons why it’s taking almost 3 months for your Balikbayan boxes to arrive in its final destination.

    I've never imported a car or a bike into the Philippines, but I have many other things. He is correct, customs will "milk" you. It won't even matter what receipts or proof you have about the items value and details. They will just make up a price that they think you will pay. They will also drag the process as long as possible to charge you storage fees. And, they place a penalty on the import whenever they can. This is why most things are coming in through the back doors.

    Greetings Grandpa, I also ship boxes to the Philippines several times a year to load up on things that are generally not available there or are very expensive. I usually use Forex but their prices are not on the cheap ($150/$175 depending on box size) so I always make sure to fill the boxes up completely. I thought the prices you mentioned were awesome. I wanted to see if they had any shipping representatives in Florida. Regretably they only service the upper east coast only. I was disappointed because the shipping price was so low. But I wanted your readers to know that unlike some of the larger shippers Forex, etc, Magcor is only a regional shipper on the upper east coast.

Umac cost $75 to drop off . Worst is LBC because they steal the items puno to shipped then when its delivered your box is kumakalogkalog it’s because they put their company packing tape on top of your own tape and from there nobody would know about that the box was opened also i shipped boxes via Makati Express then i asked a friend to ship a sealed package to a friend from negros to Cavite but look what happened the package never reached to the destination so that was stolen by the LbC employee the package was a brand new skechers shoes that was cost $59 obviously LBC damo kawatan!

    Grandpa I have a recommendation for you that could benefit many US expats. I believe you have some contact in both the US and the Philippines. Seems your often looking for subjects or topics to talk about that will be useful information to expats. Americans specifically. I’m hearing the US Government is in discussions regarding establishing a few new military base’s in the Philippines. The Marines just opened the first new base in 70 years in Guam. Hopefully this interest you enough to research this more because that’s the biggest news I’ve heard in years that will affect US Expats significantly. Many expats are former military and will have base privilege which would be a big game changer! I remember PX prices being significant lower overseas than in the states. I’m also going to be digging around because this would make me reconsider living in the Philippines. Currently I’ve decided annual and biennial visits are best for me.

    My husband and I settled here in the Philippines after retirement in March 2019. I brought most of my things from California but donated our two cars to the agency who handles the veterans. I sent my important belongings through a Balikbayan box. I paid 10500 dollars for a 20 foot container van through Atlas Shipping. The shipping company made it clear to me that the container van I will be using for my cargo here in California will be the same container van upon reaching to my place of destination here in Cebu. I didn’t bother anymore in getting an insurance because of the forwarding company’s assurance that the same container van will arrived here in Cebu. I was told by them that I should be the one who was going to receive my cargo and I did. It arrived in a month only. To my surprise, my cargo arrived in Cebu not on the same container van but a swing van (giant van) and not the 20 ft container van that I was being promised. I was very disappointed because how will I know if I will be losing some of my boxes. I had over a hundred of boxes in all. There’s no way I count all of them again when I got it. All I can do was to trust them that all my things delivered to my house were all intact. I wrapped my single living room sofa nicely with the throw pillows in it but when it was delivered to me there was already a tearing of my plastic wrapper and one throw pillow was stolen. It took me a little while to open all of my boxes since there were still minor construction done in my front house. Sure enough I lost maybe one or two of my large boxes because I couldn’t find my shower curtain anymore that I like really liked. I also couldn’t find my platter, timer for my baking needs, post its and etc. These are just petty things that I mentioned about but just imagine using a large Walmart box what else could I have put in there that I couldn’t remember anymore. I wrote the things on top of the box so it will be easy for me to recognize the things I put inside and easier to arrange too to a certain part of my house.

    As Balikbayans - we're entitled to import one vehicle (Car) tax free... Reportedly the vehicle must have been registered for 1 year in the name of the balikbayan. Is this true? Anyone has the link to the customs regulations?

  • @timfleets9384

    @timfleets9384

    Unfortunately, you’re only half right. Yes we can bring a car into the Philippines as a balikbayan one time. It my must have been registered in your name for at least six months. And the worst part is you’re going to pay a lot for taxes. It ain’t tax free. You will get hurt, mauled by customs. It’s not worth it. Buy a used SUV there instead.

    Hi Grandpa, i sent my fiance a package to her in the Philippines from America. I used UPS. My fiance received an email from UPS in Pampanga saying she needs a permit or proof that the package is personal. Have you heard of this? Any advice would be very appreciated.

    I never heard of it. However, I do not send anything through UPS. Usually I send it vis DHL. They probably just want documentation that the shipment is not for commercial purposes. When I send something using Balikbayan boxes (for large quantity), I usually fill out a declaration form regarding its contents.

    I guess you have to order it overseas and pay duties, if applicable. That us why I do not recommend bringing cars or motorcycles to the Philippines. Instead, buy cars in the Philippines and make sure parts are easily available.

    I believe that non-Philippinos, cannot ship vehicles to the Philippines, to include motorcycles. The way I heard it was: "anything with an engine"! If you are married to a PH citizen you can. SSRV etc.?

  • @michaelspencer6523

    Incorrect, it can only be 5 years old or lessto be able to use it, takes around 6 to 9 months to ship, then it be a used one not a new one even if never drove it. So a new same thing in philippines is $thousands cheaper after you pay over $3500 fees plus taiff taxes to every port it goes to. If not do it legally step by step they will take it and destroy it. It very silly to pay for a car or pickup or motorcycle to philippines. Example usa cost be $35,000.00 or same one or better $1200.00

    I have a classmate who works in a customs brokerage house in the Philippines and he said that it is not advisable to bring over vehicles to the Philippines. The reason being, the tariffs on cars will be the same as brand new cars. The Philippines is encouraging BBs to buy local and support local businesses.
