Hi Kirby. Really enjoy these videos and have been following The Hangar Project for a few months now. Having bought some cheaper shoes recently I have taken the plunge now and ordered a pair of Allen Edmonds. A pair of Carlyles in dark chilli are winging their way to Glasgow Scotland as we speak. I plan to use this method for their first shine. However, would you recommend a coat of dubbin prior to beginning this shine? Also what pigmented saphire creams would you recommend for polishing the dark chilli finish? many thanks, craig.

Kirby Allison I noticed that you are not applying the mirror wax/water carefully. Is it because you are concerned about time, or it is just you ? The unevenness is so noticeable on the left shoe, left side of the toe cap.

Kirby, I just bought some AE Leiden wingtips in walnut and followed your advice that a new pair of AE need some polish. So I ordered saphir renovateur, saphir light brown creme polish, a horse hair brush, and cotton chamois from you...oh my word, the result is amazing! Thank you so much for all your videos. I followed this video step by step, excluding the wax polish and I'll be doing this routine for all my AEs!

I never knew that new shoes straight out of the box didn't have any polish on them. I will be buying some of the Saphir products Kirby recommends from the Hanger Project. From what I've read and researched Saphir products are the gold standard.

Thank you for the great tutorial Kirby. I have a pair of tan dress boots with a tiny scruff mak on them. I worry if I get the wrong shade of brown that it will ruen them. Do you suggest to just go with the natural waxes and polishes? That way I could use it with my black ones as well. They also dont have any stitching that across the top that gives the distinct toe cap, it is all one peice. Would you still mirror polish the toe cap? Thank you.

I'm gong to be giving this treatment to my new Allen Edmonds that will be delivered this week.. I Have a question: I've got the McCallister wingtips. Would you apply the high-gloss shine on the entire wingtip (that extends down the sides of the shoe)? Or would you only suggest a high-gloss shine on more formal caps that are limited just to the toe area?

Hi Kirby, which cream polish colour have you used for those AE dark brown shoes? In your dedicated video you suggest two different colour options. Thanks

Kirby, thanks for your videos! I really appreciate them. Hey, I just scored a new pair of calf skin McAllisters in 10D, which is my usual size in calf J&M's and shell Florsheims, and they are a little snug (maybe even more than just a little snug!). Will these loosen up? Aside from what I already know about lateral leather stretch, these seem more narrow than other new 10D shoes I have purchased in the past. What is your experience / advice on these? I don't want to put any wear on them if they are always going to be tight.

I appreciate the helpful videos. I have a question regarding shoe cleaning: I typically use Bick conditioner and Saphir cream polish on my AE oxfords (no wax). For subsequent cleans, is it okay to simply apply more conditioner and cream polish, or should I strip off the old polish with renomat before conditioning and polishing to keep the leather conditioned? If polish should be stripped, what time interval do you suggest (assuming i wear the shoes 5x per week and polish monthly)? Again, I appreciate your videos and time responding to my question. -Mike

Hi Kirby, I was rewatching some of your videos. While I was stocking up on some more Saphir shoe care products, I noticed a Beauts De Cuir Cream and Wax polishes but Saphir. Can you explain more about these products? How do they differ from the Medaille d’Or items? Is there a different use for these?

I use a slightly different polishing method, but I love your videos on the subject. Polishing one's shoes is undeniably a meditative, enjoyable activity. My wife thinks I'm crazy, but the results speak for themselves. On an unrelated note: Consider shirt collars with a less extreme spread when you wear jackets like that. It's a detail most will miss, but I think it looks better when the angle of the collar runs parallel to the angle of the seam of the lapel.

Thanks! I about to start experimenting with some different spreads. I have a close friend that is really pushing me for a more narrow collar.

The Hanger Project Your friend is a wise man. It always looks more harmonious and elegant when the collar spread aligns with the angle of the lapel notch.

Can I use a colored cream polish and then finish with the neutral wax polish so that I can use it on brown and black?

Thank you for this tutorial. I just bought a pair of Allen Edmonds for my first high end shoes. And the way I got them to shine was amazing. I got multiple compliments on them. Your channel is making me dress much classier and because of that the compliments I get is insane.

It is not enough to buy shoes, they still need to be put in a fighting position. Many people forget about it. In this video, Kirby, the feeling that after a night in the pub :D

Hey Kirby, I have heard you recommending to polish brand new shoes as well, as they are not shined from the factory. Would you apply this to brand new shell shoes as well? Thanks!
